5. Must be something fairly new then
I never heard that term and I was in helicopters for quite some time back in the sixties. We Always referred to them as either Aircraft Commanmders or Peter Pilots.

7. I was in flight school at the same time junior was
and it certainly was a common term in the AF at that time - at least where I served.
