Sen. Reid said that Sen. Ted Stevens, who was under indictment at the time, was 'innocent until proven guilty' (true, of course), but says that Gov. Blagojevich is 'obviously corrupt', even though he's not been indicted. This is why Sen. Stevens was never sanctioned, but also why Sen. Reid, et al, are threatening to not seat Mr. Burris.

Come again, Sen. Reid?

1. What did Reid say about his friend when he was convicted
and still ran for the Senate seat? Didn't he take part in those ridiculous tributes to Stevens after he lost the election.
Fugg Harry Reid.

2. Par for the course for Senator Reid
He's a defenseless puppy dog toward the opposition, and only has any stones when it come to admonishing members of his own party. He's nothing but another Tom Daschle.

3. Reid doesn't make sense
He praises Stevens even after his conviction, but wants to ban a legitimately appointed US Senator because Blagojevich has been accused of corruption? If Burris were involved in the bribery, that would be one thing, but we know he wasn't---Reid is not helping the Dems one bit.

4. Exactly.
Burris has said publicly that, if true, the allegations regarding Gov. Blagojevich are reprehensible. At no time has anyone said that Burris is even remotely connected to Blagojevich's troubles.

5. Reid is helping Reid
He has a few ethical problems of his own and the Rethugs reminded him in 2006 when Dems took over.

10. Stove-piping
And, obviously, any trouble Blagojevich has is automatically imputed to everyone in Illinois. I guess. I don't get what's so wrong with Burris that he's not eligible to join the august company of a body that has seen the likes of Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Larry Craig, Ted Stevens and David Vitter in the last decade or so.

11. Roland Burris is a good man.
Like any human being involved in politics, he's occasionally stepped on his d***, but overall he's a fine, decent and honest individual. Our state will be well served by the Burris appointment.

12. And if he hadn't filled the vacancy, the Leg would have added 'nonfeasance' to its list of charges.
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 09:58 AM by ColesCountyDem
Between Sen. Reid and the Leg, nothing Blagojevich could have done would have been right...
