Remember that "hope"?
It has, to a large degree, disappeared. Even though we knew the times ahead were going to be tough, we still had hope that they would get better. Just 2 months ago, our hopes were high. We had a new President and George W Bush would be gone. There was cause to celebrate. However, not so fast.

George W. Bush hasn't left yet. The last few days we have seen increased bombings in Iraq. Afghanistan is a lost cause. On top of all that, the economy continues to go down the tubes as some talk of a $2 trillion deficit for next year. Lay-offs continue as employers shrink their rolls. Throw in a little scandal or two with Governor Blagoyevich and drag a few more Democratic Senators into the melee and we have almost utter chaos. When the Repubs filibuster President Obama's stimulus bill, then the chaos will be complete.

For sure, the invasion of Gaza did not help President Obama at all. On top of everything else, now he has to referee another conflict in the Middle East, this time between Israel and the Palestinians - in effect, between Israel and the entire Arab world. It's too bad he was not able to take over a month or so ago. I had so much more hope back then.

1. I respectfully disagree. In fact, I'd argue that globally many are even more hopeful
out of necessity.

It's all that's left, like Pandora's Box.

Can you imagine what a pile of fuck we'd be headed for with another Bushite coming in?

I'm still filled with hope. Of course much of what might have been done will take longer, but this is no time to feel hopeless.

3. I'm not sure I am full of hope.
I do think Obama is our last chance though. I'm happy he is the smartest person I know of.

2. I'm amazed Israel didn't attack Iran before Bush left.
I always thought they would.

5. I still have Hope!
Basically, shit happens, and will continue to happen. Such is life. That's why I haven't given up hope.

7. I don't think anyone has given up hope...
But I think it has been dampened by recent events. How could it not be?

Things are somehow different now than just two months ago...

9. I still have hope!
It got a little soggy but it's still there. I feel like I did when I had "senioritis". Restless and ready for the new phase. Want to get on with things. Forced to wait for time to pass. This is all on Bush, as far as I'm concerned.
