SF Holocaust memorial vandalized

Witnesses say they saw a man on Monday spraying red paint on the memorial, located near the city's scenic Legion of Honor museum.

Police say the tagger wore a white bandanna, carried a black messenger bag and fled in a car waiting nearby. Police did not describe the content of the graffiti, which city officials said was removed Tuesday.

The incident was the third time in recent months that the display of 11 life-sized figures was vandalized. Swastikas were drawn on the bronze sculpture using a black marker in November, and in October a swastika was scratched into it.

Mayor Gavin Newsom issued a statement condemning the vandalism.

2. I pray that this one man's action will be overwhelmed by a public response against that action...

A few years ago, the Chabad House on our campus was vandalized by a few idiots in the middle of the night. The outpouring of support from campus officials, local religious leaders and citizens put to rest any concerns about the nature of our little city.

This better not have anything to do with what's going on in Gaza right now.

You can hate what the Israelis are doing now, but that gives you no right to deface a memorial for people murdered by the millions.
