Does Feeding America donate the food or sell it to food pantries? A growing number of food pantries are running low on food because they're running low on money to buy food from the food banks. Food banks provide a centralized system for food pantries to keep their shelves stocked and I am not arguing that point but I have to wonder if the food banks realize that even at the low-cost many food pantries are having to cut back on what they can buy and what they can offer their clients.

I know because I have had to depend on a food pantry twice in the past year. A year ago I would come home with three or four sacks of food that would last two weeks. A year later I began coming home with two sacks of food that would last one week.

And things will only get worse as more and more people have to turn to food pantries. Many do not qualify for food stamps. Many who receive food stamps do not receive a sufficient amount per month to provide basic needs and so they have to turn to food pantries to supplement.

And more and more food pantries are further restricting the number of times a client can receive food. Most now basically allow a client to come once a week for six weeks. Or once a month for six months. If a client doesn't qualify for food stamps and their unemployment runs out, they have no options but the food pantries. And the food pantries have no option but the food banks. And without money to buy the food, many food pantries will run out of food while it sits on the shelves at the food banks. That is coming. I'm not sure if the food banks realize it.
