It must be so disappointing for these folks. Peter Welch is strongly opposed to the war. He signed on to Woolsey's bill which calls for the troops to be pulled out within 6 months. Welch's staff fed the protesters chocolate cookies, and Welch himself called in and spoke to the protesters for half an hour, telling them that he largely agreed with them. The protesters were arrested because they wouldn't leave the office when staffers closed it for the day. Welch asked that they not be prosecuted.

Must be tough to try and muster righteous indignation under these circumstances.

1. Good for them.
The Occupation Project was designed to cut off the money spigot.

Every month that the occupation of Iraq is allowed to continue, we are losing around 100 soldiers. Every month the occupation is allowed to continue, we are creating another 700 ~ 900 seriously wounded soldiers.

We hold 233 seats in the US House of Representatives, and need 218 NO votes on the supplemental to end the occupation of Iraq. Democratic spine for this vote would be a good thing. . .

2. And the best way to get Democratic Spine is to harass people who already largely agree with us

3. No, not good for them.
I know some of these people. They aren't helping. And in case you didn't notice, Welch already signed on to Woolsey's Bill. It's just silly to occupy Welch's office. It doesn't hurt anything, but it doesn't help anything either. He's already on our side on Iraq. It's theatre for the sake of theatre.

4. Hey, it's Vermont.
They probably didn't want to leave because it was really, really cold outside.

5. Sometimes ineffectual people have a strong need to feel they're accomplishing something,
even though all reason says they're being counterproductive.

It's a shame.

6. Michael Colby
Ex editor of Food & Water, Dean basher, Vermont Progressive Party basher- well, it stands to reason he'd be in on this. Here's a thoughtful take on Colby, who is indeed a very smart guy, though the author is much kinder about him than I would have been
