1. My sister loves fruitcakes, she got all four this year.
She's a mincemeat pie fan too. She's sick like that.

5. I visited the Claxton Fruit Cake Company a few years ago and
had a slice fresh from the oven, and it was DELICIOUS.

Once it's been around for awhile, meh, but fresh they are awesome.

I even bought a t-shirt ("The Choice of Millions Since 1910!").

actually a jam cake with spices and they're better about a month after you bake them. My mom used to make 'em but her hands are too stiff these days so I've inherited the task. I use dates, raisins, pecans, lots of candied cherries, and a little candied pineapple but none of that square multicolored whatever-it-is.

7. Like warm cupcakes or warm pie...
always better after just cooling a bit.

I am more of a cinnamon roll gut though, fruitcake is a tad "heavy"...might just clog the old plumbing as well...

Day 6-90 weekly maintenance.
Every Week, unwrap pudding, sprinkle on the brandy.

26. Those things aren't "right" unless they are on fire...
Must use a LOT of brandy! Come to think of it, maybe drinking most of the brandy before eating might be the sensible thing to do...:D

23. I made a WONDERFUL fruitcake this year
with raisins, currents, dried figs and dried apricots, soaked in rum. It's really, really good. I'm no fan of the candied fruit either, but the natural stuff is great.

Edited on Thu Dec-25-08 05:50 PM by rasputin1952
you'd know what went into them, and you could leave out the sawdust, concrete and other assorted "interesting" things!

Congrat's and enjoy!!!!...

I had an aunt that made Rum Baba from scratch, I could only eat a little, (it was terrible), but most homemade baked goods are great...:D
