10. I turned down a kitchen spoon because it was advertised as a
melamine spoon. And the precautions on the new silicone baking mats cause one for concern. NSF safe, unless it gets punctured or ripped.

22. I think that's because they contain glass
If I'm not mistaken. I have a Silpat and am pretty sure that glass is the reason why creasing them is dangerous. So I keep mine rolled up in the cupboard.

An alternative is good old fashioned baking parchment paper.

Have fun with the new mixer!

12. I have a friend who, years ago, would schedule Christmas in the first
week of January. They did that to take advantage of all the Christmas mark-downs.

8. We read our labels before we buy, so I didn't get anything from China.
Edited on Thu Dec-25-08 12:34 PM by ogneopasno
ETA: If everyone took a day to read the label of everything they use -- clothes, appliances, food, bath supplies, toys, printed material -- they might actually get an idea of how dire the situation is. Of course, it's a little late to care.

13. Oh, I did look. That's what depressed me.
Everything I picked up was made in China. But, I can't turn away a gift.

21. Try finding something in a retail store that's NOT made in China.
Was somewhat relieved to see that my winter coat, which I bought several years ago, was actually made in Sri Lanka. Sigh...!

Next year I'll do better, and try hard to only buy from local craftspeople but I'm thinking many of the items they use to make their wares are also made in China?

Now I'm wondering if the gift cards I buy are made there. At least our live Christmas tree wasn't grown in China... Or...was it? Hmmm...now I'm getting suspicious about where our U.S. currency is produced...

I give up. Happy holidays, all!

28. We went to see the amazing Ice sculptures at the Gaylord Palms last night.
We're in Florida so this is big stuff. It's the sixth year they've done this and before they allow you into the place to see these giant size ice sculptures they have a four minute presentation to give you background information. On the film, it was a big too-do when the artists arrived, being received like a family reunion. So where did they come from to chisel these sculptures for our entertainment? China.

26. I don't know for sure
but I would guess that my slippers came from China. My fancy Capresso coffee grinder was apparently manufactured in the U.S., and my Gary Fong light spheres for my camera came from the West Coast somewhere, although I'm not sure where these are manufactured. The Canon 50D came from Canon USA, but I have no idea where they're manufactured.
