We've had a bit of weather up here in Seattle, as some you may have heard. Enough, in fact, that my company closed the office on Thursday and Friday. This was cool for me, since I'm salaried - woot! This wasn't so cool for the approximately 50% of my office (= 100 people mebbe) that is paid hourly. And right before xmas, no less.

So late yesterday afternoon, the big cheeses sent out an email saying they were going to pay the hourlies for the 2 missed days.

I hadn't seen that before - I thought it was incredibly nice and (gasp) sensitive of the big cheeses.

1. My company has done that several times with missed days due to hurricanes.

However, they laid off 30 more employees yesterday afternoon.

Edit to add: I'm glad your company helped out all the employees. I'm hourly, so I know how much it means, especially this time of year.
