Moveon Goals
I have been a member of Moveon for several years because they opposed the War in Iraq. I really appreciate the work they've done. Recently, they polled members to set new goals. I found the poll unmanageable, too many goals, too many ideas repetitive. I gave up about half-way through trying to "rate" the agenda. All of the new goals are commendable, of course.
Now, they have announced the new priorities--health care, environment, economy, and then war in Iraq.
I believe that this agenda is too broad. I believe that they should stick to their original, more-narrow goal which was directed toward ending the war in Iraq, but should include lessening the militaristic agenda under which we have been operating. Our military activities have sucked the life out of all of the other goals, environment, health care, economy, etc.
So where do those of us who want to prioritize a more peaceful world go now?

1. I did take the poll . . .
:pals:

I think Green Energy, Job Creation (with a Green Focus) and ending the Occupation in Iraq all go hand in hand . . . I think I have more of an issue with continuing to refer to Iraq as a War. The Decider stood on aircraft carrier with the words Mission Accomplished blazing in the background. At this point - it's an illegal occupation which has only served to get innocent people killed (both our soldiers and the Iraqi people) for no reason other than the fact that Mr. 5 Deferments wanted to 'go to war'.

And I agree - Iraq has sucked SO MUCH from what America could have been doing . . . but the Bush Cabal wanted it that way.

I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bush Co's main goal was to turn America into a Third World Country - if that's not P.C. enough - then an Emerging Market.

I *think* that what Move On is proposing is a Grass Roots Marshall Plan for America. We've provided Health Care, Infrastructure, and Created Jobs through the ending of a War before (WW II - but Europe and Asia benefitted).

And for me? Health Care is non-negotiable. I don't to hear "We can't have it because of the economy and we are dragged down in Iraq". Maybe implementation will force our hand out of it?

No easy answers - but I'm there with you in terms of long time affiliation with Move On. We can't let up pressure on Iraq - but we need to be the voice of the 'Radical Left' :pals: in this country and continue to set the LeftGenda! :-)

2. Can we Have Health Care and Still Finance Neocon Wars?
My point is that as long as we waste our blood and treasure trying to "fix" the world by military means, no domestic agenda can proceed.

3. I know my fellow DU'er
But - then again . . . I'm one of those horrid Isolationists. FWIW - the Bush Doctrine failed. But it wasn't just his. It goes back 60 some-odd years.

We are screwed if we don't get a little bit selfish as a country, hold a mirror up to ourselves - and see where we've failed - and how we WILL fail if don't change from international interference to Domestic Focus.
