Wow, the outlet mall was deserted
I just came from a short trip to our brand-new giant outlet mall-- my first trip up there since it opened over Labor Day weekend. It was empty. Park-by-the entrance, no-one-in-the-stores empty. Mall employees easily outnumbered customers. One store was already having its going-out-of-business sale. Now admittedly it was 10:00 am and raining, but it's also less than a week before Christmas. Our local economy must be doing worse than I thought.

3. I reached the post office about 5 minutes after it opened, and there was a line going out the door.
It's a small post office and only one clerk was on at that point.

This was in Putnam Co. NY.

4. On the other hand . . .
I took my son to lunch yesterday on trendy South Congress, in Austin, and the cafe was packed at 1 pm with prosperous-looking diners.

We had to park two blocks away.

It was still full-ish when we left at 2:30.

Just a snapshot, I know.

5. A snow storm is starting outside and that is going to put a cabash on the stores.
Another storm will be coming in on Sunday.

This is in upper Westchester Co. NY.
