1. Good things don't cancel out bad things. Bad things don't cancel out good things.
(At least not in this context.)

It's a good thing in its own right and should get a big thumbs up.

Doesn't change the bad thing, though.

3. He shouldn't have any anti-gay-rights people involved
Imagine if he had one person who thought black people should not have the right to vote, but someone else who thought they should. Would that be OK?

4. I didn't know that...
and I was wondering if there were more prominent religious leaders representing more of society, participate in the invocation if it would make a difference. I guess I got my answer.

5. That's right. There are two sides to many issues

In this case, there's bigotry.
And there isn't.

Some people would like to suggest that these positions are equally valid.

Dagnabbit, bigotry deserves our respect!

Obama has included a bigot. And a non bigot. And yet still you whiny progressives are unhappy?

:sarcasm:

10. I hoping Lowery will take Obama to task
just like he did Bush at Coretta King's funeral.

7. It changed the meaning for me.
At first I was just sick about the Warren thing. I was really disappointed. But, as I posted in another thread, if you look at the symbolism - it can be a good thing.

Poetically...

Warren - invocation - beginning
Lowry - benediction - ending

Warren is where we were (are) = fear mongering, divisive, intolerant
Lowry is where we are going = inclusive, respect, tolerance

I have looked at it from another POV. It is symbolism in the change.

It also encompasses what Obama is about - finding common ground.

I don't like Warren, I think he is part of what is wrong in America. But I would be willing to work with him or someone like him if they had initiatives to help people. I'm thinking of a fundie at work - we disagree on all the wedge issues - but once she graduates she wants to volunteer her time in a mission to help disadvantaged people. She also is big into fair trade. I do respect that.
