The whole Blackjack episode is just the X-rated Season Finale, complete with cliffhanger..(as would-be candidates jump off the actual cliff)

Gone are the days of the wink-wink-nod-nod-ya-know-wut-I-mean knowing glances, nudges and pats on the back at the fund raiser dinners..gone are the days of the $50 per pancake breakfasts..

If Blago was as isolated and corrupt as all the Illinois politicians say he was(is), none of this is a surprise to them..

Instead of being PRO-active and coming right out and naming a list of candidates they thought would fit the bill, the Obama team made a big mistake by pretending to be "out of the loop", and willing to "trust" this crooked governor to appoint a qualified candidate, on his own. They had to "talk" to him, or risk being called clueless, but they should have done all their talking in PUBLIC, with reporters..and they surely should have ascertained whether or not he was about to be indicted..they ALL knew he was under investigation..and "everyone" knew it..

Illinois is not alone, either.

This "pay-to-play" shit is why we have such insane laws, and why a cadre of grifters are able to routinely empty our country's treasury every 20 years or so.. It;s why we have tainted elections EVERY 2 years..elections "counted" by hyper-partisans, with dodgy software..

It's why we have relatively "poor" people arriving in DC, to serve in congress, and emerging decades later...RICH and well connected, or failing that, landing 6-7 figure salaries as "consultants" or lobbyists..

It's why we have no universal health care in this country

It's why Social Security is always under attack

It's why college kids graduate with $30-40K in debt, just to "land" a $15 an hour job, they could have had without a degree..

Politics is ALL about quid pro quo...Money talks & bullshit walks.. Always has..always will..
