Ask a rabid pro-lifer how old they are.
If they use their birthday to calculate, they're not staying true to their contention that personhood begins at conception.

1. Dang! Now that's clever! (Although, if you did this in China it wouldn't work would it? I think
they might count babies as 1 at birth?)

2. If life begins at conception, then are identical twins legally the same person? nt

4. And are chimeras and mosaics more than one person?
But as to twins -- if one is a person and one not, maybe this explains where the phrase "my evil twin" comes from. ;-)

5. Not only that
we are all female at conception. So all marriage is same sex.

9. I once knew a freak
that when asked his age would state..."well I was born on xyz so I'm y birth years old and x conception years". I wanted to puke all over him every time I heard it. :puke:

10. Another confounding conundrum
You're taking a tour of an in vitro lab with your five year old daughter/niece/granddaughter/neighbor's kid. Suddenly, one of the freezer units malfunctions, knocking the kid over unconscious. Do you carry the one child out of there or grab a petri dish full of fertilized zygotes? Life is life, after all, and a person could save dozens of potential lives or just one real life.

12. This is a light thread
but I heard the stupidest fucking thing ever at work today - and this thread reminded me of it.

A husband and wife that both work at my job had a baby a few days ago. She had a difficult pregnancy and the little guy came almost two months prematurely. Everybody is relieved and really happy that mother and baby are doing well. Then out of the blue one of the older ladies "confides" how relieved she is because she says the husband had told her the doctor warned him that he might have to "choose" between the wife's life or the baby's life.

WTF!?!?

Is this some kind of loony old lady talk or would a doctor actually say something like that to a husband/father? His pick, huh?

I was kinda taken aback and just blurted out something about them already having two pre-school kids so it sounded like a no-brainer to me if any such "choice" were to be made. She looked at me like I'd taken a piss on the floor or something, so I just walked away muttering obscenities under my breath.

13. My dad felt compelled to tell the doctor each and every time my mom
went to deliver that if there was a choice to be made it better damn well be my mom's life that was saved. This was during the '50's and 60's at a Catholic hospital. Decades later he was still horrified that he had to actually have those conversations.

14. That's just crazy
It's crazy that your father would even have to have such a conversation. You'd think that saving the ALREADY LIVING mother would be the universal "default" position.

Also weird that this is the husband/dad's "choice/burden/whatever...". Shouldn't the "little lady" at least be consulted?

15. That's just the way it was back then...just mind-numbing to think
we could go back to those conditions.
