Indiana Bans Smiling, Glasses in Photo IDs
Indiana Bans Smiling, Glasses in Photo IDs

Stephanie Sanders December 9, 2008, 2:45 pm | Email this to a friend

Indiana residents who get a new driver’s license – or renew their old one – are no longer allowed to wear prescription glasses or smile in their photo.

BMV spokesperson Dennis Rosebrough says it’s necessary because the state recently began using new facial recognition software to combat ID fraud.

“Because it looks at the permanent physical features of a face, it is important that we have a clear, unobstructed view of those physical features,” says Rosebrough. “So things like glasses, for example, really obstruct the view of some of those permanent physical features.”

Rosebrough says new photos taken are being compared to photos already in the system. He says facial recognition still works in those cases, but it’s more effective with the new process.

6. Commit all your crimes while smiling at the camera
Apparently it can't recognize a smiling face.

Great. Now the Joker will come to life.

9. I think i'd stuff my cheeks with cotton balls, shave my eyebrows &re-pencil them in,
apply lipstick to widen mouth, use one of those plastic appliances that hold up one's turkey neck, & squint when having picture taken.

Just for kicks.

when everyone is required to be `chipped in order to attend public school, get a driver's license, vote, be treated in a public hospital, or hold a job. It's a future so bright you'll have to wear shades. Only, you won't be allowed to.
