It was cardboard!
Nobody was assaulted! The cardboard cutout didn't even get a sip of the beer! I know that we're all supposed to be outraged about something every minute of every day, but can't someone find something better than this?

We're still in Iraq. The economy is in shambles. People are literally being forced out of their homes. Why don't we focus on some of these before we get all bent out of shape about someone touching a piece of cardboard?

1. I logged on today
and it was a surreal experience. I can work up some outrage but this one is at the very bottom of my list of things to be upset about.

2. Because they represent the PE of the US and this is an outrage.
What would you have said if that cutout was of Michelle Obama?

5. I would say the same thing
It is a nonstory. It was a cardboard cutout.

9. I'd be saying it was much ado about nothing
and I supported Obama in the primaries, not HRC.

Was it stupid and immature? Sure. But he's not being put in charge of nuclear weapons or even in charge of an agency -- not even a teeny weeny agency. He's being made top speechwriter. He's chief speechwriter, for goodness sake. Its not a particularly public position.

For those who are outraged, how long should this incident disqualify him from having a job in government?

7. And the effigy of Obama that was used as a Halloween
decoration was just cloth and stuffing--didn't stop the outrage here.

11. I must have missed that one.
I intentionally stayed off DU during the election because it was so fanatical. I see not much has changed.

17.  Did the person who had done it apologize,
because my understanding is that Mr. Favreau has apologized to Sen. Clinton.

In addition, I don't believe that there is an election going on at the moment, and so there are no votes to gain with this story.

Further, both Clinton and Favreau are currently on the same team, and are both working for President Obama and both want the Obama administration to be successful. I don't understand how this controversy helps Barack Obama further his policies.

This election was supposed to be about big things, and it appears that Hillary Clinton agrees with that. So what do those who are still in an outraged after 4 days hope to gain by this? Today is Tuesday. Mr. Favreau did not lie to the American People and deny any of this. The apology was done on Friday.

21. Yes, the apology (to me) does make a difference.
My point is that symbolism does matter, and it shouldn't be surprising that many people here were offended by this incident, just as many were offended by the Halloween idiot. That said, I'm surprised it's still such a popular topic--but then again, I responded to this thread.

20. Well then, that's different.
It's one thing to grope (or was it really more of a fondle?) cardboard, but foamcore...well, we have to draw the line somewhere.

15. Heh. Half the "outraged" ones here are the same folks that start thread after thread ...
...that constantly accuse conservative religious types of being humorless and judgmental.
