Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) is retiring, “maybe to run for Colorado governor in two years, maybe to join a right-leaning think tank.” “I just didn’t feel that there was anything left I could do in the House,” he said. The AP notes that Tancredo seems worried that he’ll be remembered only for blasting illegal immigration. Citing his desire for increased domestic exploration for fossil fuels, Tancredo said, “There are a lot of issues beyond immigration that I want to deal with.”

Don't they realize that years from now, if they are remembered at all, it will be almost solely for their bigotry?

So Tancredo apparently does know that he is on the losing end of history here. But he does it anyway. Weird.

from having met him. he really doesn't like her all that much. She is a completely different type of human excrement.

was an a** in the House, but having met him a few times he actually was a pretty nice guy in person, and not nearly as racist as public perception would suggest.

And unfortunately there are plenty of other 'Tancredos', including plenty in the UK and Europe. We don't have as many religious bigots in politics as America seems to; but lots of the racist/ immigrant-hating sort.
