Cops gone crazy-police seize reporter's camera at protest
and then threaten to charge her with inciting a riot. All of this happened at an immigration rights protest in Oakland. They grab the woman, shove her into a police car, and then accuse her of assaulting an officer's car. They seized her camera, which was later returned to her without incident. They say she could still face charges but so far none have been filed. Gee, you think maybe because she didn't do anything?

Typical police thuggery on display whenever people are exercising their first amendment rights. This kind of police behavior is becoming all too common at protests, and it needs to be called out and stopped.

6. Cops need to be fired
Sue yes. But sue to get the cops fired, not for a monetary settlement. Cops won't change their behavior if the government has to pay out money. They will stop this shit if they're afraid of losing their jobs. I dislike cops and our country has far, far too many of them.

7. Unfortunately, the people sworn to defend the constitution are the 1st to break it.
No group in American tramples constitutional rights with more glee or ignorance than police. Most police not only do not follow the constitution, they have no idea what it means, why it exists, or why their conduct is often repugnant to it.

Under Bush, these attacks on photo journalists have risen to a level not seen since Richard Nixon was president. If the Justice Department would throw a few dozen local yokel cops in prison, this shit would stop in a hurry. Police departments run off policy, not law. They don't follow the law until they know someone will punish them for not doing so.

I know how they are, I know that there have been many times that they get on the stand and LIE. I know that they stuff people in the trunks of their cars when no one is watching. I know how they can be. That control freak SOB just set off some old issues for me.

12. Fucking pigs.
Is it any wonder why so many people HATE cops right now? HATE! You can't work with thugs like this. Not when they're being power-drunk and shitting on everyone's rights.

These sons-of-bitches should be thrown in prison, in general-pop, with the same people who's lives they ruined, see how long they fucking last...

15. Too many thug cops
I used to look at the police as people who served and protected the public until I got involved in peace protesting. I then learned that a great many of the police are power hungry who enjoy bullying when ever they can get away with it. Unfortunately, too many of them get away with it. A few of the police who interacted with us protesters were polite and looking out for our welfare but too many of them were just bullies.

Yeah dude. You're absolutely right. An accredited journalist decided to forget about doing her job and take a swipe at a police car, shortly before getting the crowd worked up into a riotous frenzy that they trashed the city. Never mind that she would have to go back to her employer and explain her actions, or the serious jail time she'd be facing. I'm sure she did it all on a whim. :eyes:

20. He thinks yelling incites a riot, even while he yells!???
Others might not know that yelling incites riots, but if he knows yelling icites a riot, then he should know that he's the one to be charged with inciting a riot.

25. It's been my thinking for a while that at protests people who have video capability.
Those people who have video capability should be shooting as much random video as they can, it was video and photo evidence that busted the police agents provocateur at protests in Canada a year or two ago.

There are lots of digital cameras and video recorders out there for not a lot of money, not to mention a lot of cell phones will do photos or video now.

Documentation of actual actions is what is needed, video does that better than just about anything.

My phone saves photos and video to a micro sd card that would be easy to conceal from all but a determined search.

26. You know what's really needed?
For somebody to follow some of those "anarchist" window breakers back to where they came from with a camera. I have a hunch that we'd likely see them getting into a police car, and not in handcuffs.

27. Video cams are getting smaller and easier to hide.
My current digital camera takes excellent video too and is only a bit bigger than my cell, it could be concealed in a hat pretty easily.

The key to getting away with video is not being obvious about it and/or having too many people doing it for the authorities to get everyone's video.

I too would love to know where the "anarchists" go after their throwing arm gets tired.

29. We need a law to make it a felony for any agent of law enforcement to...
take, destroy, or interfere the use of any camera or recording device by anyone anywhere. There really is only one reason that they ever do that, and the reason is to obstruct justice by preventing evidence of their own wrongdoing.

The new tactics of the Police Departments brought to you by Blackwater? Maybe some of these Police Departments need to be downsized. Seems they have to much time on their hands or maybe they are just afraid to go after the real criminals.
