Anyway, as a lifelong procrastinator, the truth is, I cannot really fault you for doing the DUzys late. In fact, it's actually an affirmation that we lazy asses can make a virtue out of a vice.

As a freelancer, I work when I have work, and I've had a ton of it. As much fun as it is to put these things together, there's been no time to do it.

And at the end of each 10 or 12 hour workday, I get to look at DU and try to ignore the queasy feeling induced by another daily 10 or 20 PMs about threads I just cannot miss.

Meanwhile the project I'm involved with on getting affordable housing to the forefront of progressive priorities has to wait another day, the photographs I want to go and shoot before the weather gets utterly miserable don't get taken, I owe people phone calls from three weeks ago, a book I'm trying to write gets put off yet again, a CD I started recording years ago remains unfinished, and damned if decent grass hasn't been scarce as hen's teeth recently.

I'd be thrilled to procrastinate, but I haven't been able to find the time.

Just checking in as someone who works on affordable housing issues and green housing (preferably together)...using documentary video as message format. It's a GREAT cause and I'm hoping the new admin will give a push. I did a story for PBS on an alternative to the FEMA trailers, FEMA was then supposed to the safe, clean, reusable ones out instead of the sick trailers...but then...some bs * FEMA crony incompetence and the people all got stuck in those dangerous POS.

I'm freelance, too, and work loong crazy hours so I know the feeling. Nothing is ever done. Thanks for doing DUzies; they are a great read.

I'm very impressed with them. They can be reused later, they are not "sick", they have light inside (from good windows - important psychologically) and a front porch (important living space in the south), the architecture is in keeping with the vernacular of the area, they're stronger than the FEMA trailers (no trailer is safe during a hurricane, but the FEMA trailers are more unstable than the Katrina cottages). The people involved in the designs and they were all volunteering at that time to come up with viable alternatives...the builder had in fact volunteered over christmas to get the proto-type done. Lots of people from all over the world donated time and money to the cause. It was a real shame FEMA was so inept as to not take advantage of the outpouring of help.

they sell them at Lowe's now. You can use them later as an attachment to your newly rebuilt home, as a guest house, an artist studio, etc. A lot of folks were going to use them as permanent homes, which is something I can see myself doing when I hit retirement age.
