Collateral damage - (euphemism)

inadvertent casualties and destruction inflicted on civilians in the course of military operations

See also: unintended consequence, doublespeak, unvalued life.

-----------------------------------

Collateral repair - (dissent)

an attempt to respond to harm caused by one's government by collaborating with injured persons and communities;
to re-build; a citizen initiative to counteract unjust foreign policies and generate hope on both sides of conflict.

Collateral Repair Project -- Helping you help Iraqi refugees

'...CRP represents the soul of the American people...' - MEDEA BENJAMIN

Collateral Repair Project is asking for your help this December to provide winter coats for these children. We recently sent enough funds to buy 250 coats. But there are approximately 250,000 Iraqi children of school age living in poverty and desperation in Amman, and they and their families need your help. Hunger is also a fact of daily life.

Your $20 gift will buy a warm coat for one child

$40 will provide a family with a food basket that will feed them for a month including basic staples, a chicken (a rarity in the refugee diet), and baby formula for families with infants

of the IRS Code. Your tax deductible contribution will make a tremendous difference in the
lives of refugee families in Amman & Iraq

How Can I Become Part of Collateral Repair?

http://www.collateralrepairproject.org/BeCollateralRepair.html

We invite you, as an individual or with your family, neighbors, school, peace & social
justice group, faith community, or co-workers to pledge to raise funds to help needy Iraqis

These are some of the kinds of projects you & your group can pledge to support:

* $60 will buy soccer balls for 10 children in Iraq to be exchanged for their toy guns

* only $100 will feed a family of 5 in Iraq for a month

* $150 will pay for one month of tuition or a month of tutoring for a student with
special needs in Jordan

* $150 - $500 will fund a micro-project for a family in Amman, Jordan, giving them the
means to make a small living

* NEW please consider partnering with others to rebuild a school in Samawa, Iraq

* or we can tailor a specific project for you based on the amount of funds you want to
pledge to raise or based on the age, gender or type of need of the recipients

* We are happy to suggest projects suitable for students or other youth groups

1. Artwork by Iraqi refugee children in Jordan
Artwork by Iraqi refugee children in Jordan

http://www.collateralrepairproject.org/IraqiKidsArtGallery.html

These children and their families had to flee
the dangers of Iraq to live as refugees in
Jordan.

Their artwork gives you a glimpse into their
world - the images of war and death along
with the same images children draw when
they live in safety: flowers, sunny skies and
their homes.

For these children "home" is no longer the
center of their world, where they felt safe.
Now "home" is sometimes lost completely
through bombs or theft for some. For others
it is far away and to return could mean death.

Children are always the losers in war.
