1. It's more Noggy than Eggy.
I don't much care for it, but I know people who drink it like it was eggnog or something!

All I know is my folks used to drink it about half and half with
whiskey. I never drink it. My dad ran a dairy so I parted ways with milk products long ago.

2. You are cruel.
If you need to gain some weight, please do indulge. I love eggnog! I hear it goes well with brandy, too.

7. I talked with our ND about eggnog
She said it is the perfect drink for someone on a low carb diet IF you use stevia or, in a pinch, Splenda for the sweetener. And be sure to use whole milk or even cream for the base. Of course you add nutmeg and vanilla. You leave out the booze. I've had it with booze once, but like the non-alcoholic version better, so I think it will work on my diet. Anyway, I'm planning to try it as soon as I can get some milk.

15. Tom & Jerry (the drink, not the cartoon) is made with eggnog, brandy & rum.
With a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.
They are sweet, insidious, and deadly.

3. I love eggnog, I've already bought and drank a quart by myself
it will be on my weekly shopping list til it's gone.

I just buy the regular stuff (like the stuff on the bottom left of your pic) and if you drink, try it with some dark rum or brandy

it's thick and rich, almost like a milk shake. My son drank both quarts and didn't even leave me a smell.

On edit: Oh well, it'll look better on his butt than mine.

4. It is a holiday drink whose main ingredients are milk and egg
mixed together. A sweetener is added and traditionally nutmeg and rum. There are many variations, depending upon your preferences. for example, those who can't drink milk might like the soymilk variety. Some may add vanilla or cinnamon or other spices. Some, like me, leave out the alchohol. It makes for a thick, rich drink.

10. You can make your own
and use stevia or Splenda instead of corn syrup--then it tastes great and doesn't mess with your blood sugar like HFCS does.

12. I could,
but I always remember the year Mom forgot to whip the egg white before adding them to the rest of the mixture.

That trauma is enough for me never to try to make my own.

I can handle a little HFCS once a year.

11. Every holiday season I buy a quart of eggnog.
I picked one up today (along with some 151 rum.) I polished off a glass of that and I'm feeling pretty good right now.

I got the low-fat eggnog and it tasted delicious. I saw the Hood pumpkin eggnog, but I was kinda scared to try it. Of course, right now I might...

13. I would suggest
the Silk Soymilk eggnog, I believe it's a little more nutritious than the rest and I can't tell the difference in taste.

Happy Thanksgiving,

18. The Silk soy eggnog is great! FAR fewer calories and fat calories. I like
that it's also got a thinner texture. I don't like the thick eggnogs unless I'm adding rum. The soy eggnog is pretty much guilt-free, as it's so much lighter in texture and calories.

Wow..this stuff is old!!

The origins, etymology, and even the ingredients used to make the original eggnog drink are debated. Eggnog, or a very similar drink, may have originated in East Anglia, England,(16th century)though it may also have been developed from posset (a medieval European beverage made with hot milk). An article by Nanna Rognvaldsdottir, an Icelandic food expert, states that the drink adopted the nog part of its name from the word noggin, a Middle English phrase used to describe a small, wooden, carved mug used to serve alcohol. Another name for this English drink was Egg Flip (1695). Yet another story is that the term derived from the name egg-and-grog, a common Colonial term used to describe rum. Eventually the term was shortened to egg'n'grog, then eggnog.

The ingredients for the drink were too expensive and uncommon for the lower classes, but it was popular among the aristocracy. "You have to remember, the average Londoner rarely saw a glass of milk", says author and historian James Humes (To Humes It May Concern, July 1997). "There was no refrigeration, and the farms belonged to the big estates. Those who could get milk and eggs to make eggnog mixed it with brandy or Madeira or even sherry."

The drink crossed the Atlantic to the English colonies during the 18th century. Since brandy and wine were heavily taxed, rum from the Triangular Trade with the Caribbean was a cost-effective substitute. The inexpensive liquor coupled with plentiful farm and dairy products helped the drink become very popular in America.

20. This amount of egg nog
is just a good start. I'm ashamed how much I love egg nog. Not the boozy variety, the stuff made with just whole milk, eggs, cream, and sugar. Real sugar none of that HFC. There's a company called Promised Land Dairy that makes the best damn egg nog. Aieeeeee!

I've been virtue filled about this for three weeks since it started showing up in the dairy case. Now I'm stuffed with pie and thinking, "Dammit, Should have grabbed the nog."

22. Mmmmmmmmmmm!
Nothing says "holidays" like eggnog. Just had some to celebrate surviving both turkey and starting the Christmas decorating. Back in my wild child days we used to mix it with kahlua - so rich it was like drinking a brick, but wowza! These days I just savor the unadorned nog, and the only hangover is dealt with on the treadmill. And it makes a wicked French toast, too.
