Could someone explain to me how Bush was able to f**k up things so badly and remain in office
He didn't just become a world class fuck up yesterday. This is not just a mess. This is a monster shit hole he has dug for us. How can one person be such a monumental waste of space? Isn't that scientifically impossible? He has us entangled on so much mess, experts are finding it hard to tell heads from tails.

Why was Bush allowed to drag us down in this way? Why did our Dems in Congress allow this? Yes, we've been in the minority, but we could have filabustered some of these policies. We could have impeached him back in 2005. Hurricane Katrina, Iraq lies, 9/11, torture, rendition, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, mismanagement of Afghanistan, allowing Al Quada to escape, mismanagement of public funds, huge no-bid contract giveaways, zero oversight of the credit markets, regulators didn't regulate anything, politicization of the justice department, unconstitutional use of signing statements, total idiocy on the world stage, ignoring our energy crisis for 8 years while his oil buddies racked up at the pump, ignoring global warming, and I could go on and on.

If he had been a CEO of any company in this country, he would have been removed years ago. Why is it that the POTUS gig is not seen as something more consequential than the CEO of Countrywide?

1. Kerry should have won in '04
...but from what I recall he just made too many mistakes along the way, something that Obama was able to avoid.

2. The news was cancelled. Most Americans never got the truth.
And they only heard one side of the story, the Bush/Cheney side.

3. Hint: Look at how many loved Sarah Palin and want her for POTUS...
And there is a larger percentage of stupid people now than there was when Nixon was forced to resign.

Add to that the large percentage of AM radio listeners. AM used to be the format of the evangelical con men who would buy time on stations and would drain the stupid of their funds. Now, the AM radio con men just pitch for the repugs and tell their listeners that people not as stupid as they are are "elitists," evil and wanna kill babies as they seduce their children into gayness.

5. Except for this little bank failure inconvenience
Bush has done exactly what Republicans wanted done. Why would you impeach someone who is just following the philosophy of his electorate. And as bad as it is and has been, there were still over 45% of the people of this country who wanted more of it.

9. What would they not want "the little bank failure inconvenience"?
After all, they profited handsomely from the last one, back in the '80s. And with the current one, they've been able to dole public money out to their cronies like there's no tomorrow.

6. That's a good question. Seems there's only a few possibilities.
1. No other power-holding persons or institutions noticed how bad things were getting. This seems unlikely, esp. in regard to the economy - cause powerful people watch their money.

2. They noticed, but they weren't able to muster enough power to pressure Bush's faction to behave differently. Well, maybe...

3. They noticed, & they supported - or at least didn't mind - what was happening.

My current hypothesis is (3).

Which would mean that a lot of the recent hand-wringing over our situation is 1) phoney or 2) cya.

7. I agree with #3 also - if you know how things are being manipulated it's always
easier to "buy low, sell high"....

8. I'm leaning towards your explanation
A lot of theater going on right now amongst the various politicians. These people are too comfortable in D.C. Just look at the Lieberman situation. They put personal friendships, status, etc, before the American public. Either stand for something or move the hell out of the way so someone who does have a backbone can step in and take care of business.
