The damage from pornography addiction runs deep, but one author has found freedom through Christ.

Author and speaker Jarrod Jones has written a book called 13 Ways to Ruin Your Life. In his travels, he has been amazed at the number of Christians who admit to having a problem with pornography.

"Messages have bombarded them, as well the temptations of sexual sin have come upon them so powerfully," he notes. "Through the testimonies they share with me, I have been shocked at how many have felt the openness to share with me their struggle with pornography -- I'm talking from ministers to married men, businessmen, men in ministry, young men."

Jones personally struggled through the damaging effects of pornography addiction and the subsequent loss of a relationship. He calls the Bible a starting place and the central focus of recovery. "Proverbs 7, which deals with watching a young man falling into sexual sin and what it's going to cost him, and it's going to ruin his life," he explains.

13 Ways is not a tell-all book, but Jones uses his personal experiences to illustrate how Christ can change a person. "With those battles in my life and those experiences, I discovered that...Jesus began changing because of his Spirit within me," he adds. "My desires were to be more about him, and with my mind, with my eyes, with my ears, with my body, and to pursue him in that way."

First, they want a monopoly on extraordinary experiences. They want all such experiences to be "religious experiences" and not attributable to ordinary causes like sex, entertainment, meditation, drugs, gambling or any other source of fun.

Second, it is important for them to insinuate themselves into every aspect of family and reproductive life in order to remain relevant and to control people.

Lastly, it is important for as many enjoyable things as possible to be labeled "sin" to keep people in constant need of redemption and, therefore, in constant need of Jesus.

The religious connection with addiction is an old one. Islam prohibits the consumption of alcohol and the temperance movement in this country has its roots the Protestant revival movements of the 19th century. In fact, the two founders of Alcoholics Anonymous were Christian Fundamentalists and their "treatment" is based on it.

My STBE spent a great deal of time looking at pornography, and then decided that I, his wife, was supposed to look, dress and behave like the performers that he really liked.

He resented the fact that I refused to "perform" like that and asked for a divorce.
