BREAKING on Countdown: Document dump has just happened.
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 07:26 PM by originalpckelly
Documents...coming within the hour. None available on House or Senate Judiciary websites as of yet.

House posted the last batch. We'll where they come from. Start searching for links folks.

Document dump = the expected turning over of e-mails from the Department of Justice to a third party, presumably a judiciary committee of the Congress.

Keith Olbermann just said that it happened on Countdown just a few minutes ago.

14. To answer your question, ProudTo, it's a DocDump in the US Atty firings cover up
They fired prosecutors for purely political reasons that, while not illegal, is so highly unethical that they lied about it. Of course the lying about it is illegal... in spades. What's more, it's looking like in the case of US Atty Lam of California, she was fired to keep her from continuing an investigation in the Abramoff bribary scandal. This may turn out to be illegal (altho possibly not so for those in the government since by law US Attorneys serve to pleasure the president.

22. It's a rookie mistake they didn't make previously
This administration has been conscientious about doing it's document dumps on Friday; the fact that this one came out on Monday in prime time tells me stuff is in a tailspin at Justice and nobody is in charge -- probably fallout from the chief of staff's resignation.

24. This isn't the e-mails, but it's about one of them that could be even worse for Gonzo:
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/blogs/news_blog/070319/exclusive_why_doj_is_sweating.htm

"U.S. News's Chitra Ragavan has learned that one day after Justice Department Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty testified on Capitol Hill about the reasons eight U.S. attorneys were summarily fired, a Justice Department spokesman, Brian Roehrkasse--who was traveling abroad with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in Argentina -- sent an E-mail to McNulty saying Gonzales was unhappy with McNulty's testimony regarding why U.S. attorney Bud Cummins of Arkansas had been let go. That E-mail is what is causing the most concern at the Justice Department among the 2000 pages of documents about to be released on Capitol Hill in the next hour.

On February 6, McNulty acknowledged during contentious testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Cummins had been fired because the administration wanted to name Timothy Griffin, a former aide to presidential adviser Karl Rove, who had also worked for the Republican National Committee. But McNulty said the firings of the other prosecutors were related to their poor performance. "

This looks bad, very bad.

does the WH have the ability to keep certain documents from being released?
