1. 35-40 years ago, Comics were 10 cents and 25 cents. Mad Magazine was 40 cents.

11. weren't they actually 12 and a half cents?
I seem to recall that price was around for awhile. Probably trying to convince comic book lovers to buy 2 at a time for convenience?

12. I paid a dime in the early 50s
It was a real splurge to get the giant ones that came out once in a while for a quarter.

4. Surging prices and too many X-Men titles ended my interest in comic books.
I've got 20 long boxes and that stopped accumulating a long time ago.

6. They're becoming more and more nichey every year.
The hardcore fans will stay on for just about anything, so as the publishers raise prices they issue more lines that appeal to only the obsessive. Of course, the net result of this is that fewer people get into comics, being overwhelmed by the number and price, so the publishers have to raise prices and target the hardcore fans even more...

10. on the other hand, graphic novels are becoming a separate sensibility and market...
...with, seemingly, more reasonably price points, compare to what's happening to single issues...

8. Superman cost 75¢ circa 1989. It was the last "regular" size comic to go to $1.
And they stood at $1 for a very LONG time.

13. Shouldn't the price be going down? Consumer prices had the biggest drop in fifty years due to the
bad economy.
