Huckabee insults liberals. Right back at ya, Mike
At the end of his interview on Rachel's show, Huckabee mentions that he hopes even liberals will buy and read his book. Rachel replies that liberals do love to read, and Huckabee apparently forgets that he's trying to sell books to us and quips "but they just don't understand what they read, that's the problem."

Humor, ar, ar.

I doubt if I will ever read Huckabee's book, although our library is likely to get it, but I already find the title highly ironic. It's called "Do the Right Thing". Presumably it is not a book about the Spike Lee movie.

However, he says, without a trace of irony, that our economic problems were caused by too much greed. Not that I am disagreeing, but which political party has enabled and encouraged that greed? Democrats or the Greedy Old Party? Especially since the success of Reagan, the GOP has been all about tax cuts and attacking liberals as tax and spenders. The major beneficiaries of their tax cuts have been the wealthiest. You remember, the haves and the have-mores, which Bush jokingly called 'my base'.

What about Huckabee himself? One of his key planks was the UnFairTax - to eliminate the progressive income tax and replace it with a national sales tax. A move which would be, guess what, a huge tax break for the rich.

Well I guess that will show those greedy CEOs.

In my view, Huckabee himself needs to do the right thing, and either stop lying about his opposition to greed, or study enough math and economics to be able to figure out when he is wrong.

2. Hukkkabee is a hypocrite down to his toe nails.
Why does Rachel have him on? There are plenty of conservatives that aren't Sarah Palin in slacks.

3. '... they just don't understand what they read'. I think you're talking about the wrong group
of people, Fuckabee! And furthermore, the Right doesn't read much at all! (Oh yes, the literary Right reads fact-free books by Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, 'Eye of' Newt Gingrich, etc.).

16. Especially Talking To Rachel
She understands more about more things than Huck could ever hope to. Saying it to her just made him look stupider than he obviously already is.

4. I have, myself, wondered to what extent the Bill of Rights,
the Declaration of Independence, and even the New Testament (I being a fairly reasonable example of secular leftist) are understood by the religious righties. But in regards to the UnFair tax, the problem is sheer innumeracy. People who think it's a fair burden to all have never done a back-of-the-envelope calculation about what food, shelter, transportation, and energy costs are *necessarily* like for people at different ranges of income. Whenever I hear someone plumping for the "Unfair tax", I realize I'm dealing with a naive douche whose checkbook magically settles itself by having money regularly thrown at it.

As for opposition to greed, I need only point a litle to his gift registry for renewing his vows (or leaving the Governor's mansion--something like that: http://larryh.newsvine.com/_news/2008/01/05/1205958-mike-huckabee-and-his-wife-used-wedding-registry-loophole-to-accept-extravagant-gifts-by-rob-on-january-5-2008-at-0317-am ). He's an odd duck, our Huck. Nothing greedy at all.

7. even worse ethically though
is why are people buying gifts for an out-going Governor? Some sort of "payment for services rendered". Or favors received? The list of people who actually bought gifts might be interesting.

9. I lean towards that supposition, myself--
after all--who would be his "closest friends"--besides those he did business with (for)?

6. Good old Reverend Regressive
lets beat up on the poor some more, huh? Punish those that must spend their meager earnings to live to stack the wealth up faster for the top 5%.

That's what Jesus would do, right?

Fucking ass.

11. Hey Huck, I think I'm a minister too!
Do you suppose the "man of God" lifestyle has anything to do with why people like Huckabee decide that they "have a calling"? You know stuff like: no hard or dirty labor, job security, everyone invites you everywhere, houses and cars provided, everyone listens to you and respects your opinion, they let you tell them what to do, free services, regular hours, full-boat benefits, wear nice clothes all of the time, NO TAXES and, oh yeah, all kinds of gifts. You know what? I just decided God wants me to be a minister too! I have $50. I bet all I need to do is find the right box-tops and send them and I can be a reverend too.

when he said his line. Lighthearted banter to end an interview.

13. see, now that was stuuuupid, huck.
We were watching and thinking, gee, he seems alright for a Republican. I remember liking him a few years ago even. So I'm thinking, gosh, maybe he'll run in 2012 and the GOP will have a viable candidate -- which is great for democracy. I will be working for Obama, but I can appreciate having decent competition.

And then he sank low with the slam about liberals not understanding what they read. This guy thinks he can be the president of a liberal nation? You insult us and then run for office?

I think he sank himself right there.

I'm glad Rachel had him on; I like her openness to different ideas and kudos to him for going on. Next time, Huck, remember where you are and don't insult the majority of Americans.
