I'd like to know why people are writing all these divisive posts?
Are we so used to discord after all these years under **'s regime that we can't even figure out how to get along? Obama's too cool and composed and it's driving us crazy because we're so used to fighting and war, so we make stuff up and blow things out of proportion? What's up, my fellow Democrats? I think we need to chill.

In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Can't we just all get along?"

1. Who are these people?
I say we single them out and ostracize and shame them!

2. The puppies need a chew toy to fight over.
I'd rather fight about Lieberman than Sarah Palin any day.

I guess there's only so many "Holy shit this is awesome" threads one can take before it gets boring. But yeah, I think we're all a little shell-shocked from 8 years of insanity. We're in limbo--having accomplished something amazing, but also having to wait for months to find out what's going to happen.

5. Because this is a political forum.
There will always be disagreements and divisions in politics, even within a party.

6. Blue ? .... DU has always been like this to some degree ...
But the primaries really stoked a whole lot of ugly, and ... We seem caught in this whirlwind of divisiveness that is unbecoming and unattractive ....

It cannot be born by the pure form of liberal philosophy, which I believe is inclusive and seeks to build consensus ... This is just the human implementation: Full of human conceits and ego driven impulses ....

I, for one, am frustrated by the constant barrage of ugly division ....

Perhaps it is time to move on ....

Perhaps, because DU was formed when Democrats lost a horrible race in Florida in 2000 ... and because we suffered a long period under a destructive regime .... and perhaps because the 'long national nightmare is over', and because we now have a nominal liberal administration ready to take the reins of power ....

Perhaps because of all that: Perhaps DU is more a hindrance to happiness than a pathway towards it .....

Perhaps it is time ......

I do know I dislike the constant bickering and backbiting ..... I have no desire to relive my awful past to find 'comfort' in the tension ....

Perhaps it is time to move on, until the next Florida ..... and let the hoi polloi enjoy the breast beating and sword fights ....

8. I truly believe we have been in an abusive relationship for 8 years and that has
made some of us abusers. No drama Obama will slowly help to heal us and get our groove back...

10. so there should be no discord no matter what Obama and Reid and Pelosi do
Our only job is to cheer?

Presumably we are progressives and we have certain progressive goals and things we would like to see accomplished. We try to lobby our Democratic representatives to represent US. Our desires and wishes rather than the wishes of some cabal of Wall Street CEOs or Washington insiders or whoever seems to get asked 'how high?' whenever they say 'JUMP!'

So the first thing we asked for is something we have wanted since at least January 2005 - Lieberman's head on a silver platter (kick him out of the caucus).

Okay, Obama said he did not want that, and perhaps on reflection it does not seem wise, so we reduce our demands. Just give him a good swift kick in the balls (and also put on a nut-cup yourselves) by taking his committee chair of homeland security.

Instead they have rolled over, caved in to some kind of "buddy up to your worst enemy and laugh about all the knives he has put in your back because we are all entrenched incumbents here and we gotta stick together and pay no attention to the progressive grass roots".

So this is another challenge. This post goes into my journal so it will be easy to find. WHEN, not if, WHEN Lieberman uses the steel toed boot we left on his foot to kick Democrats in the balls AGAIN I can email this to Dodd and Co, saying "well who could possibly have seen that coming?"

14. I was actually speaking of the possible Hillary SOS appointment
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 02:37 PM by Blue_In_AK
I wrote this last night because I was tired of all the angst being directed at the Clintons, who are, in my opinion, still Democrats in good standing.

Lieberman, on the other hand, I have not so much patience for. I'm not real happy about this decision today, but I suppose if I'm going to be consistent, I'll have to put aside my discomfort and trust that Obama has his reasons for extending the olive branch.

11. There are a lot of EXTREMELY conservative posters on DU.
You will frequently find posts on DU that would not in any way be out of place on Free Republic. What are we supposed to do? Agree with every rightwing ideologue who's managed to get a DU user name?

13. Hi, Blue. I'll chime in with a little arm-chair psychoanalyzin'
:D

We've suffered a shock to our collective system. We won handily at the presidential level, despite a lot of fear that we wouldn't then we went on to do pretty well with taking some seats in Congress. It was for many, a new experience. Stir in the historical fact that we elected an African-American man for the first time in our history. Something we weren't sure was possible.

Man, were we zooming on that high.

The next day, as we were celebrating and taking a deep breath and feeling giddy from such decisive wins, we were blind-sided by our losses for LGBT peoples; our friends, our family, our loved ones and us. We hadn't yet recovered from the shock of winning and we received an almost electric jolt of an ugly and surprising loss.

Mix in the sudden realization by many that there really is homophobia and racism within the Democratic Party and I think our collective system went blooey. That's a clinical, technical term, btw. It's what happens when ones head explodes as ones heart breaks while experiencing intense joy.

Anyway, that's how I see it. I should note that I am not a psychiatrist or a psychologist nor have I ever played either on TV or stage and I haven't stayed at a "Holiday Inn" for years. So, YMMV.

:hi:

Obama isn't even in office yet and we have people here calling him a sellout.

Amazing.
