IDEA: Congress should make any help for GM conditional on resurrecting EV1!
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 08:44 PM by stlsaxman
I just bought "Who Killed The Electric Car" from iTunes and it got me to thinking- who wouldn't buy a car like that? To hell with the big oil companies. Is there any way we could nudge the Obama Administration in that direction?

Who's with me? What can we do?

I very much recommend watching that movie.

2. me too- angry and motivated!
UAW should get in on this- GM and the GOP want to break the unions- but should IBEW and UAW team up they can raise enough of a stink to get something done about this, if only to float the idea.

3. Sounds good
Do you think they still own it?
A caller on C-Span said they sold it, but that may have just been an off-hand comment.

If the taxpayer took possession of the plans for the car - the possibilities would be endless!

4. My letter to my Senator-
Dear Senator,

This letter is regarding todays scheduled SD-538 Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee Hearings to examine the state of the domestic automobile industry-

As a constituent, I would ask you to inquire of the General Motors representative of the ability of the corporation to renew manufacturing of the EV1- the plug-in electric car that was the subject of the movie "Who Killed The Electric Car".

According to the movie, the vehicle was fully online to begin production and a national sales campaign, with hundreds already leased, when it was suddenly pulled without a trace, the lease renewals refused and the cars all crushed and shredded by GM to remove every last one from the face of the Earth.

The EV1 met every need of 90% of the population- able to go 70 mph and and travel 100 miles on a single charge. Yet GM claimed there was no "market" for the product.

Senator, if there is some "bail-out" package for GM in the works, please, please, please make it contingent on restoring manufacturing of the EV1.

All best,
