No one seems to have mentioned him yet, but I think he would be really good.

1. FAIL.
Fitzgerald's failure to bring an indictment against Rove was a travesty. No thanks. I'd rather go with Spitzer, hookers and all.

3. I don't believe we have all the details as to why that didn't work

6. It didn't work because Rove was allowed to change his story
in the 11th hour without consequence. At least that's how it appeared.

12. Yawn
Here we go again: Keyboard federal prosecutors, who always know more than the person actually trying the case in question.

I might also mention that looseheadprop at www.firedoglake.com, who used to work with Patrick Fitzgerald at the SDNY, thinks he should be in charge of US Attorneys. I think that's a much better job for him.

4. High expectations often lead to low resentments.
It seems quite a few are disappointed with the scope and depth of the prosecution of Scooter Libby, believing him and his cronies to have escaped adequate discovery. Some hypothesize some degree of partisan bias on Fitzgerald's part.

5. He didn't strike me as particularly partisan
Certainly not like Ken Starr was.

7. James Comey. Even though he was a
Republican, he refused to go along with them and risked his career (and more) to go stop them from breaking the law.

He also was the one who, while he was Acting AG, gave Patrick Fitzgerald all the powers of an AG to investigate the crooks in the WH.

His testimony before Congress was stunning to anyone who thought we lived in a Democracy. But he had to have been fearful of these people. He knew Ashcroft was.

If Obama wants to appoint some Republicans, Comey would be a good appointment imo. He put his country before his party when it really counted and under intense pressure to do the opposite.

8. Comey would be better than Fitz
by a long shot. Fitzgerald lost his nerve when it mattered.

I wonder if he would have any conflicts that would prevent him from going after BushCo?
