Can the other future of the republican party spin? You betcha!!
Piyush Jindal (the Republican Governor of Louisiana who is of Indian descent and who changed his name to Bobby so southern white conservative people would feel comfortable voting for him <*> and who limbaugh calls the next reagan) was interviewed on the Republican Party Network (some people call it Fox News) last week. A few excerpts:

My administration has cut spending in our state by 12 percent. Fact: discounting federal money, jindal actually approved state general fund spending, (money generated by state taxes, fees and royalties,) that is one billion dollars (or about 12 percent more) the his predecessors last budget.

We cut the number of government jobs by one thousand. Fact: The 1,000 jobs were posts that his predecessor's last budget had authorized but had not been nor ever were filled.

We did the largest tax cut in our state's history. Fact: That "tax cut" was a result of the STATE LEGISLATURE repealing a tax plan which initially was opposed by the jindal administration.

* Some say Piyush changed his name when he was a boy because he watched the Brady Bunch (his story.) I say jindal has been a young republican political operative from a very early age and knew exactly what he was doing.

Go Sarah go, you and piyush take control of the gop.

2. window dressing
I have been hearing this bobby jindal stuff since the day after obama won the election. it was all over right wing radio, with callers calling in to the bill bennett show giving out names of possible candidates for the GOP 2012. its a hoot, the callers were racking their brains trying to think of people that had darker skin than their own who were GOP candidates. jindal was all they could come up with. a few mentioned alan keyes.
i.e., they assumed that democrats and independents would suddenly vote for a GOP candidate in 2012 just because he had a darker complexion. forget the issues, forget the candidates stance on social issues, forget the platform the candidate runs on..no, we will all just gleefully vote for bobby jindal because he isnt a white man.
I was shaking my head as I listened to this in my car, and believe me, people on the radio were really straining to think of black, hispanic, and female candidates in the GOP that could be viable for the 2012 ticket. it was pretty funny.
of course, the eventual concensus was a jindal/palin ticket. which would be wonderful for the dems.

5. 20 Years Of Dittoheads Rising To The Surface...Palinization
The "young Repugnican" represent a generation that grew up with talking points and a disdain for education and tolerance. Many came through fundie groups and think tanks whose agenda was to overwhelm government and then destroy it...along with the social institutions it supports.

Who cares what Rushbo thinks...IMHO, Jindal's still too "black" to satisfy the racists in the "red belt"...Lousiana is not Alabama or West Virginia. The primaries against him could be brutal...besides his opus dei connections...his ethnicity will be made an issue by the GOOP. Power trumps all and in the GOOP hive, nothing brings power faster than fear and hate.

I'm enjoying the "pragmatists" like Piyush trying to step in as the "adults" in a growing civil war among petulant children. We're just at the start of what I expect will be a long GOOP civil war and few, if any, of the current crop will come out on top. It's gonna be a long trek through their wilderness.

Cheers...
