Is the celebration already fucking over?
Never mind the eight years we have waited for a clear ending in site of the Bush agenda, what about the HUGE victory for civil rights?

Now there's already infighting and bitterness by many.

I'm not ready to stop feeling good about Barack's victory. I'm not ready to give up my feeling of accomplishment in being a small part of that victory.

I'm going to celebrate for a bit longer and will see what our new President Elect does in office before I start bitching about him. I worked too damn hard for this day.

1. This is DU. We don't do happiness.
If you plan on it yourself you should just steer clear until you're it's all out of your system. :D

19. sure we do
It is just that as Democrats we are more concerned about the happiness of others - the least among us, the persecuted, suffering, marginalized and abused - then we are about our own personal happiness.

15. Look, you can have your problems in CA
But we saw a loss of freedom here in FL as well and it was a damn amendment to the state constitution. Apparently now the state can dictate the liberties of marriage - and I don't personally like the idea of the government coming into my church dictating doctrine even if it does agree with my own.

9. Patience.
They are coming. 30 years ago, things were quite different. Things are getting better and with this election things will progress more quickly.

I wish Gay rights would have moved more quickly and that Prop 8 had turned out differently but that does not mean we are giving up or will be silent on the issue. Justice moves slowly in regards to these things, but it does move.

20. patience
I reject these calls for going slowly. There is not evidence that progress must be slow. It is opposition that slows progress, and urging people to be patient and go slowly often becomes a form of opposition.

12. Your bitter reminder is sobering to say the least.
There are things to celebrate and mourn for.

Bittersweet, is that the word?

18. Well, after all, it was only a TD in the first quarter.
Winning the election was really only a means to an end. Over the next couple of years, hopefully, we will have many things to celebrate.

Sure, celebrate. But when the hangover clears there is a shitload of work yet to be done.
