Two trips to Chicago, two brushes with Oprah.

Such was this week in the life of Sam Perry, the California man catapulted into the spotlight when he randomly ended up next to an emotional Oprah Winfrey at Tuesday's Barack Obama rally.

Winfrey admitted on-air Wednesday she didn't know who he was. After a friend of Perry's outed him in an e-mail to her studio, Winfrey invited him on Friday's live show.

Perry told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday he believes the image of him and Winfrey was emblematic of the genuine emotion felt by many.

"It really encapsulates the spirit of the time and the moment," he said.

I was watching MSNBC and thought I saw him well before they showed Oprah and he was standing in front of Jesse Jackson. Was that Sam or just a similiar looking guy? Was Oprah standing by Jesse Jackson? (because msnbc didn't show OW and JJ in the same shot.)
