Why? Why would you name a precious loving loyal pup--
who will bring much companionship and joy to those girls and the entire family--after that hateful woman?

If a pet name saved animals being hunted simply as trophies, I could see it.

Certain "diplomatic relations" could be harmed.

Imagine ... "Vladimir" or "Hugo" or "Fidel"??
And there're Congressional relations to be considered. "Harry"? (Nope. Better not.) "Joe"? (Biden has a sense of humor, but ...)
Then there's media relations to be considered. "Hannity"? "Bret"? "Murdoch"? "Rush"?

Actually ... I rather think "Rush" might be a good one.

That is what makes him such a real person that everyone can identify with...and a rescue dog would be really cool.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:37 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
Michelle and the girls, the girls and their Dad and all of them as a family take my breath away. They are so connected to each other. I have seen photos of Barack and Michelle and they look like one person. Their intimacy is beautiful and sometimes almost embarrassing to watch. As if I'm being a voyeur into their private world.

One of the dearest things I saw last night was when Barack was going to speak and Michelle had each of the girls hands in her own and they all started to swing their arms while walking to the back of the stage. There is an authenticity in this family that I haven't seen since the Kennedy children were in the WH. I was a child myself then, and loved to collect photos of Caroline and John John. I still have a deeply browning scrapbook with some of those photographs.

As to Shrub and his kids. Personally I think they treat him more like a buddy than a father. Although I detest her father, I think the one with the greatest hope in that family is Jenna. She honestly seems to be warmer than the rest and when she smiles, it really seems to go to her eyes.

32. FYI: Here're the "rules" (guidelines) for naming a dog.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:20 PM by TahitiNut
The call name (as distinct from the registration name) should be a maximum of two syllables, somewhat preferably one syllable. The call name should not sound like one of the standard commands. "Sit," "stay," "come," "down," "heel," "no," and "mark" are the standard commands (and "leave it") , all except "no" and "mark" given with the dog's call name preceding the command. Thus, names like "Bo" (I made that mistake), "Mark," "Clown," and other rhyming names should be avoided. ("Mark" and "leave it" are standard for retrievers but VERY useful for all dogs.) (Some regard "hie on" or "go potty" as a basic command/release.)

Furthermore, the call name shouldn't rhyme with any common expletive that's typically uttered with emphasis. "Shit!" "Damn!" "God!" ... any name that rhymes with such common interjections/expletives would lose its attention-attracting value. It's important that the god is easily sensitized to the sound of its own name. Name-sensitizing is the very first 'training' a puppy will get. Using the puppy's name a LOT when feeding, scratching, playing, treating ... associated with praise when the dog shows clear alert in hearing it ... is important. If they're constantly alerting on homonyms and not getting positive feedback, it erodes the training.

Likewise, the dog's name shouldn't rhyme or sound like any member of the immediate family's name.

While subject to zeal-fueled argument, this is the guidance of the best breeders and handlers I've known.

Thus, "Fido" is really not a very good name, even though it's an archetype.

41. We have two schnauzers; and they understand everything we say...
come to think of it, they can read minds, tell time, and organize conspiracies.

You have to be very careful to avoid the word "squirrel", because they know what that is even though we never learned it at puppy class.

36. To early to name it after Grandma, we did name our's after Grandpa
But he's been gone since the late sixties. We did it because we knew puppies did naughty things and we could remember our Grandmother saying to our Grandfather in frustration "Damn it Jack". We couldn't resist.
Sadly our beloved Jack dog died suddenly the day before his eighth birthday. We have since adopted a rescue dog and she came with her own name.

A rescue dog would be a great way to go for a very busy family. There often housebroken, somewhat trained and you know their traits and bad habit. It's the only way I'll go from now on.

... both as in "Gordon Brown" who might prove as faithful to Obama, as what's his name did to * - assuming that he lasts until Inaugural Day.

... and as an appropriate tribute to Micky Brownie (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/09/print/20050902-2.html) whose deft handling of the Katrina disaster, turned into the first disaster of the * reign that people seemed to take note of - even here in Texas (Not that that kept the Lone Star for going for McSame).
