Michael Crichton, Author, Dies at 66
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/books/AP-Obit-Crichton.html?hp

NEW YORK (AP) -- The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.

Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

3. Too bad ... I had hoped he'd last to see us again join the world in fighting climate change.
That would have pissed his Neanderthal ass off.

7. ubetcha
He authored The Case for Skepticism on Global Warming and was asked to speak before Congress by James Inhoffe. Check his wikipedia entry for details on that.

8. Thanks, I didn't know that. I will check wiki right away.
My kid loves the Jurassic Park movies, but I've never watched them all the way through.

Hope there isn't anything about denying global warming in those movies. :grr:

9. Of the biggest order... and he proclaimed credibility because
of his fiction books :eyes:

The man had talent and I hope he and his family are at peace, but he enabled the likes of Inhofe to ramrod the skepticism against any global warming policy. As a result he bears some level of responsibility for the increase in crisis intensity we now face.

10. His novel STATE OF FEAR takes on
climate change, and denies global warming by cherry picking the facts and making its villain a crazed environmentalist.

4. Here is my condensed Michael Chrichton novel generator:
Once upon a time, science affords us a wonderful new innovation. Somehow, something comes along and wrecks said innovation; chaos ensues. Bad guy gets just desserts.

The end.

RIP, Michael Chrichton.

6. one global warming and DDT denier gone
sad too, I used to read his books till I realized he was a kook. I am sad for his family.

Michael Crichton’s errors worshipped by warming deniers

The Millard Fillmore soap-on-a-rope* started spinning in the shower this morning. I knew some mischief was afoot.

Sure enough, as soon as we turned the gas on to the computer and the screen warmed up, what should pop up but a group claiming to be opposed to junk science and arrogant ignorance, but arrogantly spreading the ignorance of junk science: Climate Change Fraud, “The Crichtonian Green.”

I caught the site with a news reader that looks for idiocy about DDT. This is the line the automoton caught:

“DDT is not a carcinogen…the DDT ban has caused the deaths of tens of millions of poor people…”

We’ve washed out the dirt from Crichton’s claims before in the Bathtub, in “Michael Crichton hysterical for DDT.” Go read his errors there (there’s a YouTube video of his assaulting innocent school children with his hysteric errors, too, in case you think I’m joking
