I think I heard Peggy Noonan waxing poetically about an Obama presidency on Scar this morning
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 09:35 AM by NNN0LHI
I was busy feeding the dogs and cat when I heard it but I am pretty sure that is what I was hearing.

Then the McCain spokeslady came on right after her and said she has never been so depressed in her life after listening to it.

We have done it haven't we?

1. Peggy is a realist if nothing else..
she threw in the towel long ago, and wants to be on the correct side of history.

4. Noonan gets no favor from me
Rhapsodize all she may about Obama, she's been on the wrong side of the political fence too long to think she can just hop over it now. I say this to every repuke schmoozing to get in the good graces of the left: You've got dues to pay, pal. Don't expect a warm "all-is-forgiven" embrace just yet. Prove yourself, then we'll see.

6. She IS the conservative propaganda queen..
she definitely gets no pass from me either. She's many things, but she's never been a stupid woman.

3. She talked about Obama's speech writers calling her last night
and she told them that when she wrote for Reagan it was easy because we all loved him. So she asked them how they felt about Barack and they said, "we love him," and then told her stories about why they love him.

It made me tear up.

5. Peggy Noonan's most recent column in the WSJ ,,,

Obama and the Runaway Train
The race, the case, a hope for grace.

The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes:

He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make. We witnessed from him this year something unique in American politics: He took down a political machine without raising his voice.

A great moment: When the press was hitting hard on the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter, he did not respond with a politically shrewd "I have no comment," or "We shouldn't judge." Instead he said, "My mother had me when she was 18," which shamed the press and others into silence. He showed grace when he didn't have to.

There is something else. On Feb. 5, Super Tuesday, Mr. Obama won the Alabama primary with 56% to Hillary Clinton's 42%. That evening, a friend watched the victory speech on TV in his suburban den. His 10-year-old daughter walked in, saw on the screen "Obama Wins" and "Alabama." She said, "Daddy, we saw a documentary on Martin Luther King Day in school." She said, "That's where they used the hoses." Suddenly my friend saw it new. Birmingham, 1963, and the water hoses used against the civil rights demonstrators. And now look, the black man thanking Alabama for his victory.

This means nothing? This means a great deal.

7. And so it begins
The sucking up, the currying of favor, the subtle implication that she was with us all along.. *cough* BULLSHIT *cough*
Noonan is among the first but many more ass kissers will come forth to pay (false) homage to the new POTUS.

8. I disagree ....
I think there is a genuine recognition by some Republicans of Obama's visionary power and strength of character .... I dont read a whole lot of 'sucking up' in those words ... But a grudging respect and decent reverence for a man she opposes politically, but who's powerful political presence is so overwhelming that even she cannot look away ....

I have always been a forgiver, sometimes to my own detriment ... but we can allow Peggy to heap praise as she desires if we keep her at arms length ...

9. Your last 7 words say it all
Sure, let her heap praise (and I'm still skeptical as to her sincerity) if we keep her at arms length. We agree, after all.
