Media Reviews Plame's Wardrobe -- But Not White House Coverup
In their rush to cover the long-awaited testimony of Valerie Plame, few reporters apparently bothered to stick around the Capitol Hill hearing room yesterday to witness the equally shocking testimony of a much less heralded (and not so attractive) insider named James Knodell. This left E&P, covering the hearing via the Web, to provide the only in-depth mainstream coverage of Knodell's testimony.

But now theres a chance for others to join in, as Rep. Henry A. Waxman, who called the hearings, and the ranking Republican on the committee, Tom Davis, have sent a letter to the White House demanding answers for why, despite President Bushs vows, no one there seems to have conducted any sort of in-house investigation into the outing of a valued covert CIA operative four years ago.

Knodell, director of the Office of Security at the White House -- whose appearance was opposed by the Bush team until Waxman threatened a subpoena -- revealed that his records showed absolutely no interest or questioning about the leak after the outing occurred in July 2003, and none since (he became chief in August 2004).

(snip)
So, as a public service, in case anyone is interested, here are excerpts from the Waxman-Davis letter last night to Josh Bolten, the presidents chief of staff.

(snip)
To assist the Committee in its investigation into these issues, I request that you provide the Committee with a complete account of the steps that the White House took following the disclosure of Ms. Wilson's identity (1) to investigate how the leak occurred; (2) to review the security clearances of the White House officials implicated in the leak; (3) to impose administrative or disciplinary sanctions on the officials involved in the leak; and (4) to review and revise existing White House security procedures to prevent future breaches of national security.

2. The most dazzling thing about Valerie Plame yesterday was her mind.
She lit up the room.

The Rethugs trying to discredit her with their puny political questions sounded like dolts.

Shame on the media for still more under-reporting and missing the point.

15. I just couldn't get over how prepared Plame was, how poised under
pressure, and how visibly intelligent.

She pretty much mowed 'em down with that testimony.

3. How many ran out of the room when...
Victoria Toensing came in? Man, she's one scary-looking woman.

And speaking of Toensing, how many news outlets reported what Waxman said as her *testimony* ended:

"I understand that some of the things you've stated here today with great authority may not be accurate, so we will hold the record open...."

6. No doubt.
After the repuklikins expressed their disgust for not being allowed to beat the rotting corpse of a dead horse, (not covert, can't prove we knew it even if) they left the room like a herd of, well, elephants. Valarie looked over her shoulder in obvious curiosity of who in the gallery were rushing out to continue the pursuit of ignorance in the cause of partisan cock sucking.

The conservative media's message is clear, and as usual, a limited hang out.

Pay no attention to the truth subjects, just like you have not in the past. We will provide the necessary talking points to counter reality when it rears it's ugly head just as soon as we can find a way to achieve plausibility. In the mean time , until we developed a semblance of cover for our obvious treason, talk amongst yourselves about the important aspects of the case including the wardrobes of attendees or the color of the wall paper.

That is all, report back to your work stations now.

"friendly Democrats" to criticize Bush, on her Vanity Fair photos, and on Joe Wilson off skiing in Utah. These are the real culprits--the ones who can cleverly disguise Karl Rove "talking points" as "news" --and who can blackhole the other main story of the afternoon--that there was NO White House investigation of this treasonous conspiracy. My disgust with the NYT has reached epic proportions. I even did an OP about it.

See: "How Mark Leibovich and Neil Lewis (NYT) trivialize treason and death (Plame hearing)."

8. If we had a real media this assholestration would have been outed
years ago. Instead we have to rely on word of mouth.

11. Well, part of that has to be placed at the feet...
of the users of that media. If we insisted with our wallets that it be elsewise, it would be, and quickly, by anyone who wanted to stay in business. We must each do our part.
