An Open Letter To Mike Barnicle. Re: Comments About Loathing The Left.
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 02:14 PM by 20score
Recently on an episode of Morning Joe there was a segment were Willie Geist went to the Upper West Side of Manhattan to show how closed minded those people were. Willie Geist, wearing a McCain/Palin shirt tried to talk to people about voting for McCain. None of the people were rude, no one shouted and the people there seemed to be much more polite than most people in a large city. Some even thanked Willie, but refused the shirt. Of course, then the panel came on to tell the audience what they really saw.

Willie, Joe, Mika and yourself commented on how disturbing it was that these people were unreceptive to hearing about McCain. It was supposed show, according to the four of you that these people were rude and pompous. I think it showed polite people and a rude and pompous panel. A lying, pretentious panel designed to dumb down the electorate and in the process show how fair and balanced they were. You even went so far as to say it was right to loathe the left. Now, I dont know if this comment was because of your own twisted version of reality, where you look for demons, and where none can be found, you create them. Or it was because you are a paid tool, on the television to create a sense of equality between the two political sides where none exists. This is one of those times where the media, this time you in particular, failed miserably at your chosen profession. Just like when the media pretends both sides of the global warming debate are equal, or the two sides of the evolution debate are equal, you pretended now that hating the left is okay, because they supposedly look down on the right. Where, like this segment, the media pretends that the hate on the left is equal or worse than the hate on the right. That is pure un-adulterated bullshit. Their hate comes from untrue ideas, i.e., Iraq attacked us; or it comes from bigotry. Our side is rightly mad about torture, a million people dead in Iraq, loss of constitutional rights, people dieing from lack of healthcare and millions slipping into poverty. And those things are equal to you, Mike?

Really Mike? Its okay to loathe the left? Have you seen the videos of the McCain/Palin rallies? Have you seen the videos of an Obama rally? Because the difference between the two types of rallies lays out the difference between the sides quite nicely. Did you except the people on the street to stop and ask, Please tell us all you know about this McCain fella, and spare no details. Ive never heard of him? How would this have gone down in Dallas, Texas, with someone wearing an Obama shirt? There is good portion of the people there who believe Obama is a Muslim and are not afraid to say so.

You owe the left, your audience and journalists everywhere an apology.

1. Damn, I was actually hoping this would make the main page so that Barnicle would see it.

If we had a decent media we wouldn't in Iraq, Bush never would have been president and we would probably have health-care for all by now.

4. They also do the "unfair media" game on Morning Joe.
They point to the survey that says that there are twice as many negative news articles about McCain as Obama. They ignore the fact that the McCain campaign is negative and incompetent. They just want the numbers to be equal for the media to be fair.

7. Hey recommend this post folks! Barnacle and the like owe their
upper westside livelihood to us. He needs to drop the pretense. The people on that show were not snobs, they simply did not want to support the same old tired repeat of George Bush and Dick Cheney. Barnacle needs to be called out for this! Joe we already know is a dickhead.

What's so funny about the pain, death, destruction, and ruin Bush has brought us, and McCain would continue? I don't blame people for not having a sense of humor about it.

I'm a night person and seldom see this show, but happened to still be awake. I didn't know what the hell they were seeing that I wasn't. I thought those people were amazingly polite. I brought it up with a friend who saw it too.

It's just great when journalists are delusional.

17. I can imagine what would happen if Willie took Obama tee
shirts to Pensacola, Joe Scarborough's home town. The people there would make some real nasty comments.......but take the shirt anyway as they really need them with their economy in the shitter. Of course when they got home they'd take a magic marker and write "SCREW" above Obama or maybe "SUX" after it.

19. Two points
Morning Joe's ratings are in the toilet, in spite of the fact there's nothing else on.
When ever Barnicle and his ilk complain about the liberal media being biased against Republicans, ask how they feel about restoring the Fairness Doctrine.

being rude. I saw people who felt a certain way and were not afraid to say so! WTF is wrong with that?! As for New Yorkers not having a sense of humour, well, gee, if I had gone through 9/11 which, IMO was either a case of government incompetence or it was allowed to happen to give Bush his chance to declare war--I'd be mor than a bit short on humour myself. But this is typical right-wing crap. Glad I never watch the show, the clip was :puke: enough, thank you.

about how Obama was hanging with anti-semites and terrorists. I haven't heard a peep about it since, I guess when it came out that McCain's organization had given the guy a half a mil it just wasn't important anymore... :eyes:

Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 07:12 AM by JHB
...at a street fair on 6th Ave. A small pro-McCain contingent (about 20 people at its height) took it upon itself to parade up the lemngth of the fair (~15 blocks). They drew one or two cheers, a few more boos, a lot of rolled eyes, and a vast majority who didn't pay them any attention at all.

They weren't exactly bravely running a gauntlet of scorn and hate. But, hey, we're New Yorkers! We're not "RealAmerica", so it's OK to loathe us! Thanks Morning Jo(k)es!

26. On the comparison to Nashville
First off, Nashville is one of two major liberal centers in Tennessee (the other being Memphis). If he walked down a street that could be compared to where he was in NYC (I'm thinking West End Ave. or Green Hills), he would likely be cheered for his Obama shirt. At the least, he would see others wearing them and have a healthy mix of both supporters and detractors.

But head out to the wealthier suburbs (Franklin, in particular), and the color of politics takes a distinct turn towards deep red. If he were to wear that Obama shirt around downtown Franklin, the comments he received would be anything BUT polite. People talk about how the populace of NYC is, on the whole, rude. Let me tell you, when you bring up either politics or religion (or sometimes football), the people of Tennessee can get as unpleasant as anyone.

The people that were shown were ALL polite and non-confrontational. A few stopped to speak to this guy and were actually very nice to him.
As you said, the negative reaction on the part of this panel was obviously a projection of their own feelings.
Having seen a couple of videos of the lines waiting to get into a McSame/barracuda rally, there is no way there is even a way to compare them. The repukes on those lines were ranting, spitting, screeching, cursing, using obscene hand gestures and generally rude and disgusting.
It could be said that the people on those lines were a totally different species of human being than those on the McSame/barracuda lines.
The McSame/barracuda fans appear to be some sort of throwback to a much more primitive and irrational species.

I agree I saw no one being rude. You talk about Obama around here and you get A LOT of outragous comments, he is going to start a police state he is going to put us in burkas (spelling?) they belive the radical stuff, they go for the fear tactics. I hate to even talk to them, it is like they are just too far gone. That was very mellow compared to this rural red state.
