Anyone here ever see C.S.A.?
I just rewatched that movie - the scenes of Lincoln's last film ("filmed" in Canada, at the turn of the century) are heartbreaking.

1. I thought it was brilliant
Particularly some of the little details like who the father of their country was.

George Washington of course, a proud son of Virginia who owned slaves.

In fact my copy of it is 8 inches from my keyboard and I may give it another viewing in the coming days.

3. Probably an excellent idea
It was the details - the fact that this was being aired on a "San Francisco Public TV Station" - yet there were commercials...

And many of the companies from the commercials were very real companies that either existed in the past, or still do today.

2. The racist product commercials were chilling. All REAL products.

5. I saw it.
It was actually quite disturbing and amusing until the end when it just became disturbing. I had to change my post cause I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who wanted to see it. All I can say is thank goodness the North won.

9. It gets weird
And kind of sheds light on all of our political "scandals"

11. Very true..
And though the North won, and progress towards Civil Rights and equality has been made, the revelation about the advertising and it's longevity reveals a great deal about the work that still needs to be done in this country.

6. Watched it a few times
I thought the premise was interesting and overall the film was very good; I did think some of the acting was pretty amateurish, and I thought the subplot involving the Fauntleroy (sp?) running for office was unneeded. If they had just left it as a documentary alt-history it would have been a little tighter.

Still, I'd recommend it.

10. But the Fauntleroy bit did highlight how our current "scandals" can be nothing
See: Monica Lewinsky

7. I did- a little low on production values, but very entertaining.
The commercials were very chilling yet funny.

8. Chilling, funny and all too possible
The South actually may have pushed for Slavery as its identity if they had won...
