HERALD DEMOCRAT
DENISON {snipped}-- Like lots of folks, Alice Cox of Denison took advantage of early voting and headed to the polls this week. The difference? Cox got curb service and voted from the car.
At almost 105 years old, the determined voter wasn't physically able to walk the distance from the car into Denison's subcourthouse. But that short distance didn't deter her spirit.
"Christ is just three days older than me," chimed Cox, whose birthday will be Dec. 28. She then laughed and added, "I say that all the time and some people just don't get it right away."
"In school, starting in eighth grade, you had to read the newspaper and talk about a current event every day," said Cox. "And, since the teacher read the paper, he knew if what you said wasn't right."
"I've voted ever since I could. I don't miss it. And I've always been a Democrat. Still am," said Cox. "I do remember the (John F.) Kennedy election ... I liked everything about him and I still like the Kennedys ... I was working at the Cardinal Inn and when he (John F. Kennedy) would come on (the television), I would quit working and listen to him. We all did. When he got killed, we were all weeping and crying ... I don't care what color you was, you cried."
"I voted for Obama ... I believe he will help poor people and that he's trying to make us all equals," said Cox. "And I look at it (the television news broadcasts) every night to see how he's coming along in the race, whether he's ahead or behind."
"Live a life where you can get somebody to help you because we're all gonna need help at some point."
