I called them bigots too... Sorry, that's what I think they are. :hide:

2. Yes, it was
Though I understand your feelings. It's just that it probably reinforces their views about those that disagree with them.

9. Reinforces their view in what way? That I'm tolerant of gay people?
Well okay then!

19. No
That those who oppose them are not nice people. I doubt they think to themselves as you flick them off, "oh, they're tolerant of gay people!"

25. Thanks for asking a non-question
Obviously your OP is fake. Sorry answering your own question means I am concerned.

:eyes:

I know people who used to be intolerant of homosexuals, very intolerant. Now they are not, though not due to people giving them the bird. If you think this is the best way to change people's minds, by all means then, go right ahead.

20. eh?
Try flicking off all of those who disagree with you and see how far you get. Most of the people I've encountered in life who flick off others at the slightest whim are assholes. That's not the image that will change people's minds.

28. These people are fucking nazis who want to take existing civil rights away from some Californians
or some Americans, since it's taking place in other states as well.

Why should you be "nice" to people like that? If you had access to a time machine, would you go back to 1930's Germany and advise the Jews to be "nice" to Hitler? I'd tell them exactly what Adolf had planned, and advise them to kick his fucking bad haircut in.

30. Whatever
If you think all these people are nazis then you need a more nuanced perspective. I totally understand the feeling of anger, believe me. But I know people in my own family who are against gay marriage. They are not right wing nazis, they are people like my 80 year old grandma. She is actually quite tolerant overall, but does think marriage should not be redefined. She's all for civil unions and equal rights, but the sticking point is the word "marriage". I'm right with you in thinking it is silly and stupid, not to mention not equal. But considering her circumstances and her generation, it's not surprising. And her views have changed over time. She wasn't always so accepting of such things. She's getting better. So are others. I just wouldn't want someone flicking off my grandma the "Nazi". Demonizing faceless opponents is not the way to go. I'm sure there are some real bigots who support issue 8, but I'm guessing the vast majority are decent people who have been raised and told that to not believe homosexuality is a sin is to repudiate their religion and all they believe in. I know, having been raised in such an environment.

Let's just say it's not helpful to flick off people you don't know. And personally, I think it is wrong to flick off people except in a very few circumstances. Seeing a bumper sticker you don't agree with isn't enough, even over a hot button issue. So I guess it's just a personal view of using the bird as well. There's enough shit in the world, and I guess I just believe that as Ann Frank said, there is good in everyone. We can disagree with them and change their minds, I'm all for that.

31. It's their business if and when they resolve their religious bigotry
But when they try to write that bigotry into a state or national law, then it becomes something else entirely. My elderly parents still cling to the ridiculous idea that sexual orientation is a "choice", and they aren't even crazy about the idea of "gay marriage", but they would never think of voting for something that takes AWAY somebody's civil rights.

THAT is the issue here. Existing civil rights. What other rights are "ok" to eliminate in the appeasement of religious bigots?

35. I agree
They just don't see it that way. They think homosexuals should have equal rights without redefining marriage. They don't see any conflict with civil rights by doing that. It's the wording for so many of them. Silly I know, but that's it. It's ridiculous, but most of them aren't Nazis that deserve to be flicked off is all. They can be reasoned with logically, don't write them off! It's part of the reason why views on homosexuality are changing in this country.

41. Repercussions, consequences are a trademark of republicans.
Sarah Palin being a prime example. So democrats are finally fighting back, what we hope is our future.

Homophobia is not to be taken lightly. Denial of basic rights to people who differ should not be viewed as a whim.

Cruelty to people who only want to follow what is in their heart is treating them less than human.

I don't flick off, however, fighting back is always a good idea. We have seen what we get when we give an inch. No more.

and there was a bunch of "Yes on 8" idiots having a "rally" in our town too.

Even driving into SF today to work, I saw a big SUV with two "Yes on 8" bumper stickers. Pretty ballsy in S.F.!

13. i flipped one off just this morning!
i flip them off every time i see one. also flip a big fat bird when i pass by any house that has one of the signs in front.

i have those bumper sticker holders that are the clear sleeve with the suction cups that stick onto your rear window from inside the car. i've got "Support Love And Equality - Vote No On Prop 8", "No On Hate - No On 8", and the ever popular "Hate Is Not A Family Value".

when i'm on the Peninsula, motorists are more polite. (easier lane changes and such)

when i'm in the southern part of Alameda County, i get nasty looks and the high beams right up my ass.

I have stuck out my tongue and given raspberry sounds and called them pukes. The only bumper sticker I have seen also had a McCain Palin sticker on it. The strangest thing I have seen in an Obama Biden yard sign next to a Yes on 8 one. Many churches in my area gave out the yes on 8 yard signs and I was furious to learn they weren't violating separation of church and state.x(

I'm having a hard time not driving them clear off the road. The bumper stickers and signs have popped up everywhere in the past two weeks.

40. I flipped off some 'yes H8'ers' last weekend
driving down pacific coast highway through newport beach. It felt pretty damn good too I might add. Later that night I told my sister and her response was, 'well that was nice.'

They deserved it, I said, and had I been in a position to do so I would have yelled out a huge FUCK YOU ASSHOLES out the window as I went by.

Later in retrospect I thought about the word, nice, and perhaps my sister had a point and that maybe I should have been 'nice' toward these scared, ill-informed and misguided people. I began to feel bad about how I behaved and thought, well gee what could I have done differently to let these people know that I disagree with them STRONGLY yet at the same time show them I am a compassionate Liberal with a tolerant and understanding heart.

As I was struggling with this dilemma this is the conclusion I came to because at this point Matthew Sheppard popped into my thoughts. These people are hate filled vile pus-bags and they are not worthy of anything except a huge FUCK YOU ASSHOLES.

Nice job devilgrrl:-)
