Okay, in all the fuss, have we forgotten something very important...???
I'm speaking of what happens to Skinner, EarlG and Elad after next week. I'm sure DU will spike for a while, but after the dust settles, then what? I'm sure they must have thought about it, too. Your business plan addresses it, right guys? H

Having once been a DU front-page contributor, after a post count that I would find embarrassing if were not for so many of the even more voracious DU keyboard commandos, after practically surrendering my life to the fight (as the DU3 have done), there's going to be a lot of decompressing a week or so from now, in the event that Obama wins. So brothers Skinner, Elad, EarlG...thanks (I think) for creating such a user-friendly (I'm speaking of the GUI, not the posts), diverse yet concise, active, fun, blah blah blah (that's McCain-speak -- I'm just trying to be fair and balanced) place to spend a few years.

I'm not going to be so presumptuous as to consider this in the bag -- fool me once, can't get fooled again -- but I think it's not too early to take a break, take a breath, and thank the DU3 for making this tea party happen.

Thanks, Skinner, EarlG and Elad!

:toast:

I've been a reader since before Kerry, I doubt very much I'd stop just because a Democrat gets elected as the POTUS. And I highly doubt others will either.

Thanks DU3 and mods and all of those members more informed and eloquent than I. The post count may drop slightly after Obama wins, but DU will go on and on. There is much to be done.

Even given that Obama wins, there's still three months left in this awful administration, in which some pretty awful endgame things can happen.

19. And even after he takes office, we will need to hold his feet to the fire.
And make these Democrats do the things they were elected to do. I am sure there will be a brief honeymoon but Obama and Congress will need to hear from us on what WE want them to do. They don't get to reward their corporate cronies- we have to stay on them from day one.

And of course there is always plenty of right-wing fodder for this mill. Plus we get to make fun of the losers.

5. Yes, many thanks to the DU3!!! this is my "real" home!
But I don't think anyone's going to be resting on their laurels come Nov. 5. That's when the real work begins -- first the transition, then the clean-up, the rebuilding, etc., etc.

So don't anybody go thinkin' we can take it easy from here on out!

7. I donated $25 to Obama VIA DU last night
I've mainly been focusing all my donating on Obama's web site. $25 here and there whenever I can spare it. I figured my (probably) last contribution for the election might as well have the DU name on it. Probably after the holiday hump we all gotta go threw, is when I'll lay down my DU donation. This site is well worth supporting.

9. "Thanks, Skinner, EarlG and Elad!" I agree with this portion!
But, as far as what will happen after November 4th?

I suspect it will depend on the outcome.

If the election is not tampered with and the current polls are accurate, there will be hundreds--if not thousands--of celebratory photo threads and miscellaneous "WOO" threads followed by just as many "HOO" threads.

Otherwise there will be lots of threads of riot photo threads.

17. I think the point Atman was alluding to is the death of DU in the event of

14. You don't think that our win will mean that people will leave, do you?
We learned our lesson well with President Clinton. We need to do two things when Obama takes office - hold his feet to the fire and get his back. We also need to do the same with the members of Congress who are ostensibly on our side (that's worked out well, hasn't it?). Our job is nowhere near done. Hell, we can finally begin on November 5th.

They will continue to get my monthly donation and my continued devotion.

18. History in the making
The past eight years have certainly been notable in many ways for anyone interested in American politics, economics, foreign affairs and culture.

As an avid history buff, I've often read and wondered what it must have been like living through other periods of great crisis: Cuban Missile Crisis, WWII, Great Depression, etc.

Thanks to DU we have all been given a seat front and center to the unfolding history of one of the most trying eras in all of American history: the Bush-Cheney years. It has been a great vantage point to see all that was happening, both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras. DU has always been ahead of the curve in discovering, analyzing, and sharing the living history taking place before us. It has given us a forum to educate ourselves, engage in serious discussion, and blow off steam from all the accumulated shock, outrage, frustration, and grief over what we were all witnessing.

As we turn the page on this most awful chapter of American history, before us looms another chapter of great history in the making. The greatest presidents have all served during the most challenging times. Barack Obama is by default an historic figure, and he will be facing enormous challenges. He has enormously high expectations but he is enormously gifted and intelligent.

The next four years DU will also have a seat front and center to history in the making. It is our great hope that Obama will rise to the challenge and lead to a resurgence in liberal policies and values that are critical to our futures and the future of the planet. It is my belief that DU will continue to play an important role in all our lives as we begin the process of recovering from the painful era of far right dominance and into a new era of liberal emergence.

Thank you, DU3 and EVERYONE who has contributed to making this place what it is - essential!

20. I hope everyone doesn't just take their marbles and go home.
This is what scares me......the last time we had a Dem president, we all got complacent and stopped paying so much attention while the right stewed in their vile hatred and anger and planned and plotted. Believe me, impeachment plans for Obama are already being honed in some dark room (or someone's mom's basement. ;)) I'm not letting my defenses down for a second and I hope DU will always be a place I can come to for information and consensus.

it will keep us all busy for years mining those veins and getting them out to the wider world. Bush is the gift that keeps on giving. :puke:

What we know now is only the tip of the iceberg.

I'm thinking of starting a Bushcrap-opedia site to keep track of it all.

That will take about two to three years. Keeping large Dem majorities will become the new focus. The Obama smears will become even nastier. I can think of a lot of things that will need to be done. I think DU is in a great position after we win! I really don't think we know the full magnitude of what DU has done. We know how many are registered - we don't really know how many just read, how many link, etc.

We all will deserve a celebration and a much needed breather, but then we will take up the torch again. A different one, though. This one will be the torch of Making Changes Into Reality!!! :bounce:
