A Letter.. I Love You, But Hear Me On This
My Sister wrote this letter tonight to our Brother who is a raygun loving, bush supporting, super-capitalist republican.
This is a well thought out letter that covers just about everything that matters. My Brother banters back and forth with her (as I gave up on him as far as politics go years ago) usually making jokes about these last eight years. He has a 7 y/o son and twin Daughters almost 6 months old. My Sister and I can not understand how he can make light of the most serious decision of certainly our life times. Here's what she said........

Feel free to use any or all of this letter just be sure to add names as they apply to your own.

I Love You, But Hear Me On This
My Dearest Brother,

I appreciate your thoughtfulness in trying to ensure that we are not "at odds" with this election, but I am not on the fence about anything involving the ultra-serious issues facing our country at this time. I'm afraid that I do not have much of a sense of humor about it, nor do i think it's a laughing matter. You can make all the jokes you want about "real Republicans" or Ronald Reagan, but the truth as I see it is that Bush has bloodied his hands with two on-going wars, the deaths of 4000+ young people and tens of thousands of our youth who will never be ok again, who don't have hands or feet or brains, who can't think anymore, destroying families, along with their futures, he's created inconceivable indebtedness of our country, unnecessarily and stupidly, has been unprepared with the ability to "imagine" what problems may be just around the corner, using lies as his "basis" for war ~ a very serious matter, who neglects the young and the old, the poor and the minorities, who is the biggest hypocrite alive, saying that he's a "Christian" who values "life" but has the highest record of executions as governor of Texas, including retarded people ... i could go on, but you'd only joke.

(Brother)D****, I love you very much, and politics will never change that, but I am honestly deeply saddened when I hear you say that you "side" with people like Cheney, who's just an evil old, money war monger, whose profited from this war in numerous ways with out care or concern for the thousands of lost and ruined lives. And then there's Palin, who is so ignorant and hypocritical that she says she's "pro-life" yet she's neglecting her special needs newborn, who is blind to seeing that we need to protect the polar bears, and that it's beyond barbaric to pay $50 for each wolf paw brought in, or who enjoys shooting exhausted animals, fleeing in terror for their lives from some maniacs in a helicopter, who think that it's all good sport....who makes rape victims pay for their own rape testing exams, who is an ignorant "creationist" who doesn't believe in the science of evolution, who's a complete phony "hockey mom" who has cheated her own tax payers on so many many issues, about which I cannot laugh.

McCain is dangerous, short-tempered old man who has proven himself absolutely incompetent to be President, as I see fit to deal with the dozens of problems that Bush has created, and the Republicans can't seem to let go of the obvious failures of the past 8 years. Bush has not done ONE THING RIGHT in 8 years, and McCain has supported him, time and again, on issues that matter deeply to me. They matter deeply to me, D****.... A woman's right to choose an abortion if necessary, Head Start programs for poor kids, supporting veteran's benefits for additional education, drugs for the elderly, healthcare for everyone, supporting for alternative fuels for the 21st century. Those are not impossible goals, but they are not on the agenda of the Rovian Republicans, who lack compassion, kindness and humanity. "If man does not extend his circle of compassion to all earth's creatures, then he will not himself evolve."

D**** ~ all of these things matter so much to me.... They are not jokes. The world is facing an extremely serious crisis and McCain and people like Karl Rove should not decide the next 'right" steps for America. It's not funny that this campaign refers to Obama as an "Arab" or a "Muslim" or a " terrorist." It's wrong, it's evil and it's a lie. Plain and simple. They have no answers to address the future, so they revert to smear tactics, that are counterproductive. In my view, McCain does not have the intelligence or the temperament to face what lies ahead. I don't want (Nephew)M****** going to fucking Afghanistan to fight wars for these ass*oles, or to die, like (Sister in Law))R***** husband. McCain said that he does not support abortion, even in the case of the woman's 'health." Would it have been my fault if I'd died in 1972 on that table in Mexico? Should others have that fate, because McCain & the "Christian Right" have high jacked American "values" ? Do you believe that "God sent Katrina to New Orleans to punish the gays" as the Republicans say? Do you think it's ok to hold detainees without trial or charges in Guantanamo, or torture people in Abu Grab? Or it's ok to ignore Habeous Corpus or the right of privacy? Do you understand that one out of every four homeless in our country are veterans? Does anyone give a damn? Are Mexicans the real problem in our country "they are costing us so much...." , or is is just possible that the CEOs of Lemann, or AIG, or IndyMac, or WaMu are costing the taxpayers and retirees who CANNOT RECOUP their losses of more than ten of billions of dollars more detrimental to America than those hard working gardeners and maids? And whose freaking marriage are gays ruining by having the right to marry themselves? Guilani's three marriages? Newt Gingritch's three marriages? How dare they deny those rights to other Americans, standing on the morality of the Bible???? It make me sick. Truly sick.

I am 100% percent against everything that this administration has done to our country, from out-sourcing manufacturing, to our national deficit, to the security of our country and the peace of the world.... yes, D****, I think that this election is enormously important and is no joking matter. If what I've said here does not reach you, then perhaps the editorial below can better state my beliefs. Dozens of the old Republican guard, Richard Clark, Paul O'Neil, Westly Clark, Colin Powell, dozens of retired generals, and many current Republicans do not support the past 8 years, nor do they support a McCain/Palin ticket. It's not about "socialism" D****, as you kid, it's about so damn much more. Obama is not a "socialist." That's such bull, especially coming from this bail-out administration that has created the largest government we have ever seen in the history of our country... Besides, is socialism more evil than invading and occupying an innocent Iraq??? On false pretenses???? WMD's my ass.... Add to this the denial of stem cell research that Bush is too stupid to understand or give a damn about how many thousands it could help who are inflicted with with Parkinson's, MS or other serious life threatening issues; or developing alternative fuels to prepare for a healthy and green future and not the cliche of "Drill, Baby, Drill." It's about the future of our earth, as I see it, as I wish it could be, as I think it could be so much better.

If you think that the past 8 years has been so great, then we have fundamental differences, and that's just how it is. But, to me, the past 8 years has been more destructive than I ever could have imagined. I want change. I want better. I think that our country can once again be a beckon of light in a challenged world. Bush is, without question, a hideous plaque, that has infected the world for 8 years. Maybe Obama is not the entire answer, but I would literally bet my life that McCain is not the answer to America's future.... Are you willing to bet the future of your children on it? Just read the below, and then we can forget about this. I will see you on Saturday and we'll not speak of this again. But, my most beloved brother, I firmly and deeply believe in all that I have just said. Please do me the courtesy of reading the below. L8r. xoxo (Sister)C********

1. You have a sister to be proud of!
That is one righteous rant. She has managed to crystalize so much in just a few paragraphs. I hope your brother reads it and takes it to heart.

6. preaching to the choir
Nice letter for fellow DU'ers, but it won't change your brother's mind. You obviously despise everything related to Bush/Cheney/Rove, et al. But your disgust with them is so palpable that it won't change the mind of someone who is a RW'er. My guess is he'll write it off as the over-the-top criticism of all things Bush.

Just accept you won't change him. And vote your concsience. You can't change everyone.

1. Anyone can change.

2. You don't abandon your family because of political disagreements or immaturity, people can reach the same place at different times.

9. Most people who vote for R's are acting on irrational impulses.
Trying to reason with them is useless, but I hope your sister feels better. Her letter is magnificent.

The United States is a LIBERAL Country.
