McConnell discharged from Army for being gay?
I don't care if Mean Mitch is gay but it sure would explain a lot of his innate nastiness if he is forcing himself live a lie his to keep his cushy GOP position. Lunsford is giving him a serious run for his money - and the blood red Conservatives won't like the idea that Mean Mitch is "one of those" sinners. I'm generally not one for "outing" anyone but when you are a mean, corrupt, chinless, hypocritical GOP asswipe I waive my own rule.

Mitch McConnell: Was he discharged from the Army for being gay?

Louisville, Ky - America's top gay activist blogger, Mike Rogers, went public today with his investigation into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY). Rogers called on the Senator to release his military records -- including documentation of the reason McConnell was discharged from the Army in the midst of the Vietnam War -- one day after the Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Kentucky's former Attorney General Greg Stumbo came forward with questions of his own for McConnell.

(snip)

Rogers has discovered inconsistencies in McConnell's public Army records and is the first investigative reporter to note the differing answer to a section of the records titled "Transcript of Court Martial." While every other section of McConnell's records without information states "n/a," this particular section uniquely states, "not on file." "Alone," said Rogers, "this court martial information may be insignificant, but it warrants further investigation when coupled with my other research."

(snip)

The records Rogers has been able to obtain indicate that McConnell enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1967 and was abruptly discharged four months later for a minor medical condition. His discharge was expedited by the claim that he needed to be released quickly to attend New York University. NYU records indicate that McConnell never applied to the school, and at the time of his discharge he had already earned a law degree from the University of Kentucky. Rogers has also reviewed phone records showing a flurry of calls from the office of McConnell's patron in the U.S. Senate at the time, Senator John Sherman Cooper, in the days immediately preceding McConnell's discharge. The calls abruptly stopped shortly before McConnell was discharged.

In addition to repeatedly refusing to publicly address his military record, Senator McConnell makes no mention of his time in the service on either his Senate or campaign websites.

Senator McConnell's story just doesn't add up," said Rogers. "I encourage him to consider facts and the truth his allies, not a problem. A speedy release of his records and openness with the public is the only thing that will help clear this matter up once and for all."
The Human Rights Campaign has given McConnell a zero rating for his anti-gay rights voting agenda in the Senate. His uneven treatment of the sex scandals of Republican Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter received a great deal of attention last year. The New York Times reported that McConnell threatened Craig with a far-reaching ethics committee investigation and embarrassing public hearings about his sexual encounters if Craig refused to resign. McConnell also stripped Craig of his positions on powerful Senate committees. Vitter, who paid for services from a female prostitute, faced no similar reprimands from the Senate Minority Leader.

2. You got a whole lot of NOTHING there, my fellow "Democrat"
Having one gay baiting political party is more than enough-no need for two.

5. I think I made it pretty clear I don't care if the man is gay but I do
care that he has lived his life hurting and discriminating against people because he is a GOP hack. I'm not gay baiting I'm hypocrisy baiting and Mean Mitch is the perfect example of what the GOP is today.

13. Like I said you are gay-baiting with NOTHING
You're doing it wrong.
A proper queer rumor goes like this: "Senator So-and-So was seen at this club/hotel/resort not accompanied by his wife, but with un bel ami close by him at the pool/bar/checkout. Throwing decorum to the wind, Mitch The Bitch did everything but bite the guy's neck in public."

McConnell got out of the Army during Vietnam, during the worst years of the war, probably with the help of political clout. That's all you have evidence of, and this evidence explains itself with 100% sufficiency. Vietnam: nothing needs to be added to that to explain McConnell's separation from the Army. Most people with strings to pull got out of serving in Vietnam, one way or another. The current President and Vice President are great examples of that. Your source suggests but shows NO EVIDENCE of some special GAY court martial for McConnell. The lack of any evidence coupled with a sensational accusation is somehow to be taken as conclusive proof. Yeah, that's how they do things over in Freeperville.

16. Agreed. It looks more like a "W" thing than a gay thing--powerful forces lobbying
on his behalf to get him out of the service. Why do people here jump automatically to "Oh, he must be gay!"

7. McConnell has used whisper campaigns, branding Dem opponents as
gay. Down ticket candidates he controlled also used the gay card against Dem candidates. Ex Governor Ernie Fletcher is a prime example. Ernie was a sleazy Christian right, anti gay, understudy to Mitch. Ernie was so corrupt he had to give amnesty for past and future offenses to his staff and himself to keep from going to prison.

3. I talked to a Kentucky veteran who served in headquarters* at that time.
He said the word back then was his eye trouble was "He couldn't see the difference between a man and a woman."

It shouldn't matter if a person is gay, and any person of good will should be left alone. If that person is a hypocrite, then he or she should be exposed.

*He served at Ft Knox where McConnell served, and Ft Jackson SC.

9. BFD - lots of GOP frauds have beards.
You think that Chao got Secretary of Labor because she is so qualified for the position? Hell, no, they had to pay her something to put up with Mean Mitch and keep his secret.

I realize this isn't definitive evidence but Mean Mitch used unsubstantiated rumors about Jim Bunning's opponent in the waning days of the 2004 election to imply that Daniel Mongiardo was gay because he wasn't married so he must be gay. Bunning was losing and suddenly Kentuckians hear the dreaded "G" word. What's good for the goose... is even better because there is some evidence it might be true.

6. The saddest part of this story is how far back in our "enlightened past" this attitude goes.
I have to wonder how his political attitude was effected by the moral climate he was forced to live in. How many people have been prevented from reaching their full potential because of the hatred and public judgment of their sexual orientation?

I hope that we are finally growing into a future where this attitude will no longer exist.

12. He shouldn't have to hide now. One of our state Senators is gay. Soon that
Senator (Ernesto Scorsone) will be elected a circuit judge. If Ernesto Scorsone can be openly gay and win public office in Kentucky, I see no reason for McConnell to stay in the closet. We know him by his works. He can rise or fall on his record. I'd rather he be honest about his true self.

Anyway, it's the worst kept secret in Ky. I really don't think most give a shit.
