A group of Senate Republicans are spreading the word that John McCain is unstable.

They have questioned Republican presidential candidate John McCain's fitness for the White House, suggesting that his five years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam drove him insane at the time

Supporters in South Carolina made race-baiting phone calls saying that McCain had a “illegitimate black child".

Others have suggestioned that McCain had committed treason while a prisoner of war, and had fathered a child by a black prostitute.

1. Sometimes you can know someone for years, think you know them

and find out later that you didn't know them at all... this is John McCain. From what I've seen and heard & although I respect his military service... IMO... he's more myth then maverick.

Your question implied as much, but I'd add: Who is John McCain today? If ever a man epitomized the pol who would do or say anything to get elected, gramps is that man. He has sold everything: his service to our country, his family, his reputation, his very essence in a Faustian effort to realize his blind ambition. If he'd bothered to read the play all the way through, he might have seen that it didn't end too well for the protagonist. I'm so hopeful that we'll all get to witness him getting his well-deserved 'reward'.
