Seems to be a lot of "information" being leaked to frighten the masses.

1. The world needs a good pandemic
Too many humans on it; a pandemic taking out over half the humans on the planet would be a good thing.

3. No, but that is not the point.
Regardless if my family and I were one of the survivors or not, 1/2 the number of humans dying off would be good for the planet.

8. Why not just wipe all of them off and be done with it?
:sarcasm:

I think half the humans on earth dying would be nothing but a tragedy. Do you think that genocide also has its good points?

Instead, we need to work MUCH harder on **humanely** controlling our population and lessening our impact in other ways.

9. Reduction in human numbers is a given.
One way or another the human population WILL crash.

The planet cannot support the current levels much longer. Once the ocean fish stocks collapse, that's it and we are close to that point now. Soon standard foods will not be sustainable such as meat, then rationing will occur, etc.

Either it's a pandemic, massive starvation, or some hopeful wish humans will self-control their numbers.

I'm skeptical the last option will occur.

The tragedy is that we ever out grew our environments ability to support us. Nature isn't worried about how you feel about a species getting wiped out.

19. Honestly, the people that WILL perish
will be the old and the poor.

Class warfare anyone?

11. Yes it is the point.
It's easy to make sweeping statements like that unless you consider that you or your children may be among the 'wiped out'.

12. It's called perspective
From my personal perspective, if my family is hungry, I'd kill plow the last patch of rain forest and kill the last remaining white rhinos to feed them.

However, it's better from the perspective of the planet that my family starves to death.

Try viewing the world outside the lens of your own personal wants once in a while.

18. That's pretty funny.
Don't you dare assume something like that about me. Your comment was cold-hearted and, yes, narrow-minded.

4. Vote early.
If the government has to shut everything down to stop an epidemic before Nov 4, your vote will already be there to be (we can hope) counted.

7. The governor is simply suggesting prudent behavior
Having non-perishable food (and some water) around is a good idea, for a lot of different reasons.

For example, what if power goes out for an extended period of time. Are you prepared?

13. Exactly. The San Francisco local govt. has been suggesting this since Katrina.
Lots of local ads about stocking up on food, batteries, water, etc, etc.
