No wonder normal everyday Americans are railing against the Obama tax plan.

7. which is funny considering the whole "religious" angle they play
I had a Christian Conservative friend of mine say she is worried about Obama giving money to the poor. My response: "WWJD? LOL!"

I doubt she got it.

11. So tell her when she pays her taxes she may as well just send it
to a rich person, because that's where it will end up anyway...we pay the taxes so the rich get a tax refund while we scrap to get by...maybe she'll get that...

17. No, that's the funny thing about it
She and her now husband I knew in HS and have not seen them in 20 years. Back then they were fairly progressive. Now they're married, with kids, found God, he makes a lot of money, and they don't give a shit about the rest of America, as long as they don't have to give anything to the poor. So Christian it makes me ill.

4. I'd write that tax check with a smile if I made that much.
If I got to keep HALF of that, I'd be doing handsprings.

How much money does one need to live a decent life, anyway?

These greedy pricks want all the money in the world for themselves. All of it.

8. How much is enough?
For some people, there's no such thing. The tax cuts that Dick Cheney cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate for back in 2002 put an additional $175,000 in his overstuffed pockets for the tax year. What could he buy that he couldn't buy before? What could he do with that money that he couldn't do previously?

What body armor might we have been able to purchase for a soldier in Iraq with that money? Could an additional teacher or three be hired by an overburdened school district? Might a few potholes been filled or a bridge retrofitted? We'll never know, because Dick Cheney had to have that money.

9. I don't know, I'm a pretty simple guy when it comes to needs
And my 'wants' are pretty small, as I consider the massive ownership of 'things' just an encumbrance on trying to have a happy life.

Like my Dad says, after twenty years, it's junk. If you own it fifty years, it's a collectible, one hundred and it's an antique.

I'd make a lousy billionaire.

19. Sick of the Repukes parroting this meme.
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 07:57 PM by HughBeaumont
Pretty much like they parrot ALL of their talking points - without examination or question.

Reality, unfortunately, dictates otherwise. Giving all of the tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations makes THEM complacent. It pretty much allows them the luxury of not having to expand or hire; just stack the cash, make voodoo profits and slash more jobs to enhance that jobless, customer-less profit. If you're really good at this, you can legally steal tax money via your own private equity firm, like KKR or the Carlyle Group. Risk-free, practially tax free, and payback-free.

Who here has heard of the term "jobless recovery"? Well, that's what happens when you lower corporate taxes. The people who aren't you get paid whilst you get ze SHAFT.

In this "bailout", we pretty much paid for the license for businesses to fire us. And there'll still be a recession while CEOs pay no piper and have their fortunes intact.

We're all in this together. Except when we're not.

I know...the poor and trodden down rich folks. Of course they still have another 2 million to go if they want to reach johnny-boys definition of rich.

18. Also, who will stand up for the ever-oppressed financial elite?
Sure they own the banks and suck the money out of workers pockets, but the masses still fail to give them the undying worship the rich feel they deserve. My heart is full of sympathy for these misunderstood banksters...
