Annoying republicans I won't have to endure after 11/04!
It just dawned on me today, there are certain people who will fade away into obscurity after the election and I won't have to listen to them anymore!

1. Brad Blakeman - Why on earth is this man with ZERO personality actually a regular on TV? He is just a Talking Points Doll.

2. Ron Christie - Now maybe he can get a real job!

3. Nancy Pfotenhauer - Now maybe she can stop smiling.

4. Ed Rogers - I thought we were rid of him but he is back and he is as nasty and whiny as ever.

5. Michele Bachmann - But I think she's gone already, thank god.

6. Heather Wilson - Thank goddess for TIVO, as I just FF through any segment she is on.

I know there are more, but that's my top SIX. Anybody else have some favorites they'd like to add?

Oh, and Dick Morris. He's no good for anything, unless you're trying to blame the Clintons for something. Buh-Bye, Dick.

10. Ron Chrisite and Ed Rogers
I'd gotten my fill of both of them during the '04 campaign. They both whine big time and Ed Rogers disappeared for a while during this campaign when he made snarky references to Obama's middle name on Hardball. Guss all is forgiven now.

I don't mind listening to people with opposing views, but these people just speak in prepared "talking points". They never express an original opinion or idea. I can listen to Pat Buchanan without wincing even though I strongly disagree with him.

29. Who Says They're Going Away?
They'll go from being "spinners" to "consultants". Most will go back to their usual hives on K Street or the AEI and will be called on regularly to give their "views" to the myriad of cable shows out there...or to Faux Noise. If not that, there's always hate radio that considers some of these people "stars".

31. Keep Your Friends Close, Keep Your Enemies Closer
Some good news is I expect hate radio to become an economic casualty of the total implosion of corporate radio. Less people are listening and many of the companies that fund these intolerant bastards are going bankrupt. Ya see, there is an upside to the market's collapse.

Be assured that should the GOOP lose big, we'll hear an outcry that the reason was they weren't "conservative" enough. I even expect the party to take a farther tilt to the right as more moderates and independents stay away. We'll see the Gingriches and other iritants willingly offering their "opinions" to criticize not just Sentor Obama, but other repugnicans as well. The knives on their side are already starting to come out...the bloodletting could be both bloody and quite amusing.

Cheers...

32. Well that is optimistic
I would love to see hate radio crash and burn, and I can see it happening. We have to reach the point where "liberal" is not a dirty word anymore. Unfortunately, economic depression is usually what bring liberalism back in fashion. What is happening now could be a necessary correction for society.

"both bloody and quite amusing"! Gotta keep our sense of humor!

Reregulating radio that breaks up the 1,2000 station chains that dominate programming and replaced local voices with ones off a satellite. Legislate to add voices, not to restrict them.

38. Revising Telcom '96
That's really what started the landslide of the AM band into hate mode. This bill allowed for companies to gobble up "properties" by the hundreds...compiling large chains that consentrated a lot of the public airwaves in a few hands. Local competitors were bought out and in a move to "economize" and "consolidate", local programming was replaced by cheaper satellite shows and radio lost both its independence and objectivity.

While the economy is taking a big toll on these large companies, what's more important is to break up these monopolies...return ownership to more and local hands...and with it more voices, opinions, formats and ideas.

Cheers...

43. Yes They Do...
I've spoken with FCC Commissioner Michael Copps...who I hope is elevated to Chairman should Senator Obama win. Both Copps and Adelman (the other Democratic commissioner) have been very critical of the consolidation of power in broadcasting and want to encourage both local and minority ownership.

Radio is suffering a massive depression. It's lost a generation as younger people are tuned to their IPODs and Internet Radio and caters to ever-shrinking niches of listeners. It's seen revenues drop as internet and cable TV have become far more popular and effective advertising mediums and it's gotten worse with the economic recession where advertising dollars are getting tighter and tighter. Companys that spent billions in building their empires have seen their market values hit the skids and they're stuck with lots of money-losing, yet over-valued properties. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the months ahead.

IMHO, the hey-day of hate radio has come and gone. While still a potent noise maker out there, it's a dying format on a dying medium. The real game is for Democrats and Progressive to position themselves to pick up the pieces...just as the netroots has revolutionized the internet, a similar movement could do the same for radio.

Cheers...

65. Oh my god, YES!
I didn't put her on my list, because I haven't seen her much lately. Has she been showing up on CNN maybe?

As a side note, the last time I saw her she looked different, as if she'd had a face lift or Botox. She looked a lot younger, but when she opened her mouth she was just as annoying.

66. AND now I know why Brad Blakeman is on the top
of my list. He really earned it today with his insensitive comments about Obama flying to see his dying grandmother.

He will really be history after November 4th and he won't be missed.

67. Sarah Palin
A candidate who should be seen and not heard.

After being a drag on a ticket that will score in the low 40s when the popular vote is counted, she'll become the Rick Santorum of 2008. After Santorum got a whopping 38% of the vote in his bid for another term in the US Senate, there were still right wing morons who wanted to run this guy for President. However, no professional campaign consultant would even take such a proposition seriously.

It is doubtful that more than a few fire-breathing fundies outside of Alaska will give Mrs. Palin a second thought after November 5.

74. I hope you're right
From the Alaska DU'ers, I get the feeling that Sarah won't be welcomed back with open arms. It will be fun to watch her spiral downwards in the Enquirer. I realize she won't go quietly into the night - there will be book deals and maybe a TV movie for Lifetime, but I think her 15 minutes will wind down really quickly. There is no substance there and the American people have a really, really short attention span. Someone else will take her place very quickly. Any plans for a 2012 presidential run should be abandoned immediately!

Or not, it would be fun.

75. I'm not saying she won't run
but it will go nowhere.

76. I agree
Americans have a very short attention span. She will quickly become a faint memory for most. Meanwhile, there are other obscure personalities out there already planning to take her place as soon as she falters.

68. Heather Wilson FASCINATES me
The old man and I like to speculate on the secret lives of any Republican we see on TV. Dems may carouse and carry on, but Repubs always have a special twist.

Heather? Mean drunk. Mean, nasty drunk.

If she were a character on a TV show, she'd be the respectable businesswoman and civic busybody that few people know is the real owner of that bordello just outside city limits. She backhands her girls across the face and carries a gun in her purse. She's tough with her goons, but that dashing nightclub owner she has the hots for can treat her like dirt and she still comes back for more. Till one night she gets drunk and shoots him dead when she catches him playing up to her latest hire. Heather Wilson. At heart, just another two-bit floozy.

They're much more fun to watch when you give them some backstory.

71. Oh good god
You do that too???

There clearly is a back story to Heather and I can't put my finger on it. My sci-fi side says she is an android who is programmed to say certain things (can't be interrupted) and display certain facial expressions at the right time. Of course, your scenario is much more intriguing, though she just does not seem to be human.

77. I can see the android angle
- frankly I think it fits just about any Republican, except that poor cross-eyed sucker they put on TV cuz he's black (they really can't find any good minority mouthpieces) -

but our scenario is inspired by Heather's Barbara Billingsley hairstyle and her heavy retro eyebrows. She looks like a decent, conservative mom from the 50's. However last weekend we caught her on a split screen with (I think) Chris Matthews and a spokesman for our side, and I think they were talking about Michelle Bachmann. If I'm not too clear on the details it's because we were distracted by the way Heather's performance deteriorated throughout the segment. She started out with chin up and fixed smile, but then her chin dropped and she was glaring at the camera from under her eyebrows, her smile sliding to just one corner of her mouth, and her head slightly bobbing like some shifty guy about to go for his gun. OMG we said, that's totally how she looks when she's drunk. And she's mean!

I'm wrong, though, about why she shoots her two-timing boyfriend. (She doesn't care, she's got a heart of stone.) It's because he partners up with another gangster who buys out her controlling interest in his nightclub, and she just can't trust him unless he's under her thumb. Oh, she's a cold one, that Heather Wilson. And obviously we've been watching too much Peter Gunn and 77 Sunset Strip on the local rerun channel. But who can resist the theme songs? :D

78. And I've been watching too much
Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek!!!

I saw the same "split screen" and her facial expression was melting as Matthews talked. I noticed her "bobbing" head as well.

I love the Barbara Billingsley comparison!
