Fox News Propels "Joe Plumber" Into the Limelight
Reported by Melanie - October 15, 2008 - 8 comments

"Joe Plumber" popped up out of nowhere yesterday (October 14, 2008) as a guest on Fox's "premiere business news" show, Your World w/Neil Cavuto during an hour of Obama bashing. 24 hours later (had you heard of him before tonight?) he's the centerpiece of a presidential debate? Can there be any doubt now as to how much Fox influences the discourse in this country?

Below - in a nutshell - is what "Joe Plumber" said yesterday (see link above). I'm uploading video now.

Don Marron, a Wall Street investment guy came next. He and Cavuto talked about the bailout and then Joe Wurtzelbacher brought up the rear over a chyron that read: "Voter Confronts Obama Over His Tax Plan." Wurtzelbacher is an Ohio plumber who asked Obama a question about taxes and didn't like the answer. "His answer actually scared me even more... It's kind of a socialist viewpoint." I don't want to share my money "with other people. That's not the American dream."

after his Obama hook-up

He sure did make the rounds didn't he?

4. I wonder.....
When the economy is going well, I can see the majority of people having the attitude of "Don't take my money! I worked hard for it - go get your own!"

And, don't get me wrong, I don't like to needlessly part with my hard-earned money, either.

However, this Joe guy's comment, "I don't want to share my money with other people" comes off, in today's climate, as rather crass to me.

Times are hard. We're supposed to join together as a nation to get through this.

I can see people railing against giving the GOVERNMENT more money (that is an easy target for people to see as the enemy), but I think his comment just comes across as a very selfish, thoughtless, me, me, me, gimmee, gimmee kind of guy.

5. "Joe the Plumber" is an idiot. I have been "Josephine the Plumber"
for over 30 years. I started in the biz when the "Joes" tried to make it their business to run me out for having the wrong "plumbing."

"Joe the Plumber" would be bankrupt wondering WTF in two years. If he cannot understand the difference between "tax cuts" and "increased fees," or the difference between providing health care and increasing wages, he is an idoit.

6. Okay Joe.
I'm with you. Just make sure you don't use the city streets to get to your clients because they've been paid for by other people.
