1. Better for us if McCain stays.

He believes in confirming the president's nominees to the Supreme Court.

He can help us get someone like Russ Feingold confirmed (influencing other Republican Senators.)

13. He believes that this week
As you know, his positions can change quickly and repeatedly as evidenced by the 2nd version of his 3rd mortgage proposal. :eyes:

3. I don't think he'll live long, win or lose.
He's old. He's had health concerns. At the second debate he was wandering the stage like a derelict when Obama was talking. (Jon Stewart had him calling his dog, "Mr. Puddles," and offering him Snausages, but it's more likely he was looking for those invisible people who talk to him and give him good advice like calling his opponant "that one.")

I seriously think that, six months after the election (either way) he will be hospitalized and will die quietly in his sleep.

...someone from the same party (required by law) and there would be a quick special election:

"I don't think he'll win the Presidency, either, but if he were to do so, then his seat goes up for grabs via interim appointment and special election in November 2008 at the earliest, January 2009 at the latest."

5. I think he may for health reasons
There is much speculation that he is ill. If his melanoma has returned it could even be fatal. I am not wishing anything but those are the hard facts.

7. Before the 2010 Elections

He won't run again, and his seat is up in 2010. He won't retire immediately.

Obama and Biden will be replaced by Dems. Obama without any trouble; the DE governor's race is close between a D and a Rethug, but Biden can just retire in December (Quayle did this) to allow the outgoing, term-limited Gov. Ruth Ann Minner (D) to appoint his replacement.

11. The DE Gov race isn't close at all! Markell (D) has a 30+ point lead in the polls. nt

12. Oh? Good Deal!

I figured Markell would win eventually (I'm not far from DE), but I had not seen too much recent polling and I thought things were a bit closer, making Biden's decision more interesting if Obama and he win. Doesn't sound like it. Good; thanks for the info!
