1. My wife and I saw this movie last night, and
it is fucking hilarious. Bill Maher has hit a grand slam home run.

I will go and see it again. I can't remember seeing a funnier, more on-time movie.

Watch out America. Bill's bringing common sense. Get ready.

...and that pathetic would-be-movie "American Feral" or whatever they call it, wherein 3 Nascar Christian Spirits in cowboy hats change Michael Moore into G. Gordon Liddy or whatever..we can only hope it gets what it deserves....OBLIVION

2. ..but it's DISGUSTING that it's not doing as well as 'Beverly Hills Chihuaua"
good grief...another indication of how criminally STUPID this country is

4. I guess people needed an escape from the bad news, but Beverly Hills Chihuahua?
That does speak volumes, doesn't it?

I too thought Religulous was hilarious, and quite a showcase for Maher's sardonic glibness.

I almost needed oxygen after the scene with the Ex-Gay Ministries dude.

5. Like I said...criminally stupid. Yes it speaks volumes.
But we're early. We just saw this movie last night in Ann Arbor MI and I'm sure it's all over the state. It will snowball, I think.

I really think Bill's caught the same lightning in a bottle that Monty Python and Woody Allen did earlier.

This movie will go very very big, and when the religious nuts start whining about it....that's just free advertising.

6. It's BAD ASS. You won't be dissapointed. I thought it would be good going in, but
it far surpassed how funny AND important I thought it might be.

7. Going to see it tomorrow!
Only playing in 1 theater here -- so of 80+ screens in town, only one is showing it. It's f'n absurd.

8. I predict that the worse the economy gets, the more garbage like Beverly Hills Chihuahua get made.
In bad economic times, escapist fantasy movies would seem to become more popular as a vent.

9. Doncha know? All the theaters are pro-leftist-liberal-commie, etc...
Obviously, the box office is secretly substituting tickets for An American Carol with those for Religulous. Evidently, no one in America seeing either of these movies bothers to look at their ticket stubs.

Yep. That explains it. You betcha.

It was doomed from the start.

11. See also the last number in each of those rows - the budget.
Religulous cost 2.5 million, An American Carol cost 20.

14. The best part...
American Carol cost 20 million to make plus about 10+ million for marketing and distribution. It needs to make about 30 million before it breaks even and it's foreign market prospects are pretty much nil. I don't see movie-goers in Sweden lining up around the block to see it.

On the other hand Religulous cost 2.5 million, probably had about the same marketing costs and looks like it will start turning a profit by next weekend. And then there's the overseas market, which looks good.

Free market capitalism baby!!111!!
